What is Meedio?
Meedio is the award-winning solution for transforming an existing PC into an all-in-one multimedia system. Organize and enjoy your digital photos, music, and movies using an attractive graphical interface that works great with a TV and remote control. This integrated digital media center even includes weather forecasts — you can enjoy all this from the comfort of your couch. Plus, you can personalize the entire system with hundreds of user-contributed themes, add-ons, and extensions available through the Open-Maid Directory.

What Meedio Does?

Photos
* Share your digital photos with your family and friends by displaying albums and slideshows on your TV.
* Organize photo albums and slideshows from folders on your hard drive or network.

Music
* Organize, find, and play music from your PC, network, CDs
* Supports a wide variety of audio formats including MP3, WMA, FLAC, APE, Ogg Vorbis, and many others.
* Customize the music library to organize your files by genre, artist, decade, or any other user-defined categories.



Movies
* Watch your DVDs, video recordings, home movies, and streaming media with the integrated video player.
* Customize the media library with cover art and support for categories such as name, genre, year,rating and not watched.
* Find any file by browsing through categories or searching for keywords.
* The ability to use your own external video player, your not limited to the internal player.
* With the correct plug-ins, you can play random movie trailers and intros before a movie starts by just pressing play.
* With the Apple trailers plug-in watch trailers for your movies
* Ability to play ISO files with the Playmee plug-in and Daemon Tools. Ability to auto-mount.

*Meedio has a fast extensible skinning engine that allows designers to let their imagination run wild. Developers have used these features to create widescreen, full screen themes and even a carpc theme!

Note: - Some themes have required plug-ins. Be sure to check Openmaid and the theme's plug-in page for required plug-ins.

* Access hundreds of user-contributed plugins for new features even beyond media playing, such as email, web browser, maps, Internet radio, recipe databases, Netflix, Blockbuster, sports scores, RSS feeds and many more.

* View current weather conditions, forecasts, and animated weather images for multiple locations worldwide.

Meedio Installers - there are 3 installers. Meedio 1.41, Meedio Ultimate 1.2.1 beta and Meedio 2.55.0.1d.

Meedio 1.41 - This was the last prestine version of Meedio before the Yahoo takeover.
Meedio 2.55.0.1d - jkm78's latest "Meedio Micro" installer which includes the updated Yahoo 0.2.55 core (optional) and a few extra plugins: OpenMAID, Weathered, more TV Tuner Graphs, and a slightly updated Default Theme. (This is the one I'm using now)
Meedio Ultimate 1.2.1 beta - This is the recommended download for the new user. Packaged with loads of pre-configured plugins and advancements. Includes the updated Yahoo 0.2.55 core (optional).

New Users Getting Started Guide - very useful for beginners

Meedio is not Meedios - Some people get this confused because the website is call Meedios.com. Meedios is currently in production and has no set date for a full scale release.

Note: Though Yahoo purchased the intellectual property (IP) of Meedio, LLC in 2006, they did not purchase the product. The MeediOS community is continuing to improve Meedio. Visit www.MeediOS.com for more info.

My Brother in law has it, and its extremely cool, however i dont hook up my PC to my tv like him so i have no use for it

I still can QAM direct from cable and ASTC from the STB to work with Meedio.... In fact, I can't even get QAM to work by itself.

The only reason I never used Meedio for DVR is that it don't support dual tuners and don't support one of my video cards....And I was using Beyond TV before I had Meedio. I still love Meedio for everything else.

Does the video player in Meedio come with all the proper codecs to play standard DVDs and such? or do you add those in yourself? Basically, do you need anything besides Meedio to play a DVD (be it disc or iso)?

I'm not sure because I had all the codecs already installed. As for .ISO, you can use the playmee plug-in with daemon tools and it will auto-mount ISO files. I also use Playmee to use other video players. I have the playmee plug-in setup to use Zoom Player for all .mov files except for streaming .mov files. I have playmee setup to use vlc for that.

I figured some of you might like to see this. It's a new Netflix plug-in for Meedio. They also have a Blockbuster one that does the same thing. I'm using the netflix plug-in. You can also watch the instant videos, view movie trailers and do most of the stuff that you can do on Netflix site.

will most def be trying out that meeflix by the week's end. quick question on that... are you using IE or Firefox, and it appears that you have to open said explorer first to use meeflix, is that right? Any other tips for the install?

Just follow the instructions on the forum page. Works great for me. You'll need to install the internet plug-in to play online movies. You'll also want to go in Windows Media Player, options, privacy and check "download usage right automatically when I play or sync a file."

Hey DH, in a few of your other posts in this section you mentioned you have dual tuners to be able to watch live broadcasts and DVR other ones at the same time.

How is this accomplished in meedio if dual tuners are not supported??

BTW...based on your info I have decided to build a HTPC, just bought a cooler and memory for the new build
