Here read this. It is a guide i wrote that explains how each TV type works. This will give a basic idea of what to look for. What is your budget? Do you want flat panel or is rear projection fine? I have owned LCD (2 sets, sony and Sharp), Plasma, DLP, SXRD and LCD rear projection, and by far my favorite is the SXRD. I love that set.

Thanks for the help guys. Rep+ to everyone.
Question, does anyone here use their HDTV as a monitor for your PC? How does it work for you? Have you experienced any problems with it? Also how about Philips HDTVs? I saw this 120HZ 1080P 42'' for $1100. Any thoughts.

if you're using it as a monitor then you might be able to notice te difference between 720p and 1080p. it depends on how close you are sitting. I personally would go with the samsung posted above, but only because i like the DNI-E setting on my 40" 1080P samsung. some people don't like it because it enhances colors but i do. i used it for my HTPC and it was great, i was sitting kind of far away to use it as a rugular monitor, but for videos and games it works great. as said before don't plan on using the built in speakers. They try to make TVs thin, and this speakers don't usually work very well. they need some depth.
Edit: i personally think the 120Hz thing is a gimmic for TV and movies. If the camera is only shooting 30 FPS then having the screen that refreshes 4 times faster won't help anything.

If you're going to a large screen, why go with a trivial resolution? Smaller dot pitch is better...you notice it if you're anywhere close to the monitor. My HDTV model is in my signature. I love the model I've got except for two minor things...no PIP (not a big issue) and there is a definite amount of red push. I don't really notice it, except I use red fonts for certain things. I got the TV from newegg for $850.

If you don't need a flat panel, Sony's SXRD sets are the best sets you can buy for the least amount of money. The pixel density, blacks, and fluidity of motion are superb.

Agreed. And since they are discontinued, you can find them relatively cheap. i bought my 60" SXRD about a year ago and it was around 2200.00, now you can find it for about 1500.00.

Large LCD flat panels give me nasty eyestrain and a headache when using as a computer monitor (for web browsing and reading type software...) Watching movies, or gaming is fine.

I wonder though, are you using a 1080"P",720p, or 1080i flat panel. I tried to use my 1080i for a monitor and it was horrible. Also how far away from the set do you sit? I want to know this kind of stuff before I comit to this setup.
