Default [BUILD] Blowie's HTPC - 56K Alert!

Blowie's HTPC

Hi guys!

This time instead of building a game pc with watercooling (which i dumped 6 months ago because the lack of time and interest of gaming because of work) i'm building a HTPC mainly for playing movies in 1080P in all kind of formats. The goal is perfect movie play without any hickup, getting DD and DTS to my reciever/amplifier without any disturbences or noises and just great reliability of just 100% pure fun.

THE SETUP

Setup:

CASE: Antec Performance One mini P180
CPU: AMD Athlon X2 5050E
MOBO: Asus M3A78-EM
DDR: Corsair DHX 4GB PC6400
PSU: Cooler Master Silent Pro 500M
HDD: Western Digital 80GB (OS)
*HDD: Seagate Barracuda 250GB (Data Backup, since i have no regular pc)
*HDD: Samsung 500GB (having problems at cold startup, dunno yet)
*HDD: Western Digital 1TB (Media backup)
KEYBOARD: Logitech Dinovo Edge
*PHONES: Sennheiser RS 120
HDMI: Konig 10m
Toslink: HQ 10m

* already in use from old setups
Lime - Recieved!

This Build will include no mods, no fancy lights, no bulls***. Just simple but reliable, small and silent....

Home Theather Setup

This setup will be played on a HT set that i have build up in 18 months, Most of these components will be unknown by you guys but here's my setup:

TV: Samsung PS50 A656 50"
Amplifier: Primare SPA20
DVD: Primare DV25
Tuner: Primare T21
CD: Marantz CD-10
Tube- Amplifier: Miracle ITA-45
Fronts&Rears: monitor Audio 5I
Center: Monitor 10I
SUB: REL Q400
Cables: MIT & Xindaks Interlinks, Silverwire+ & MIT Speaker Cables
Audio rack: Finite Elemente Spider 2x 60.3

The blue light above the TV is no ambilight as you guys know from Philips, these are just two Philips imageo LED lights connected together with variable color setings, great for the ambience

Build will start in 4 or 5 days (i hope) most parts will be in by then.

The GOODIES !!

So i finally got some time to post the build, so let's begin !!

All the packages are in, WOOT, i hoped they would came before the end of the week and they did. So now i can finally open up the boxes and see what nice goodies i orderd!

And here are the 'brains' of the HTPC, i choose for a slightly overkill 4GB ram, cause 2gigs were almost the same price. And see here the 45W cpu !! less heat production and easier to cool with a aftermarket cooler

The Exoskeleton, !! I've read allot about this case, seems as it is one of the best build mini towers there is

oh buy oh boy oh boy !

TADA !! great look case don't you say ?

AH! The Logitech Dinovo Edge, i'm curious how this keyboard will live up to my expextations... seems that it has a touchpad like mouse and all kind of fancy lights.

The Build !!

So i had some problems that day, my lincense papers were taken in by a cop because my car hadden't a stock exhaust, just bacause of my age the a-hole tryed to s**** me it's a big thing here in the NL at the moment, they irritate hard working young people by doing controles aside the road, almost 90% of the people that are taken in for a check are younger then 26 years, then trying to nag about everyting that's not stock about a car, yeah that's the right thing to do ! instead of taking care of the scum and bigger problems... but it's crisis in the world atm, and the people that have money has to pay for it...

Anyway i got them back blablabla that's not why you guys are here for... so let's start with the build !

The case has a 120mm rear exhaust fan. and a 200mm top exhaust fan, both come with a speed controller build in the case....

Dust filter at the bottom, but don't worry, at the front are also 2 mounted...

Nice looking thing, a solid build if i say so myself. The best thing is, it's prepainted in black! but.... since the case will be closed it doesn't make any difference if it wasn't

rubber pads for thr PSU, Antec just thinks about everything...

These HDD cages are great, they feel solide and the silicon rubber are fantastic.

These rubbers will suspend the HDD's without attaching the to the cage itself, so they will in fact float...

Cooler Master Silent Pro M500, bit overkill with the 500wats, but thinking in the range of 5 HDD's, a Bluray, soundcard and tv tuner in the future... i think i'm on the safe side...

A PS... no a CD just what i needed ! and those rubbers are for... ?

Great thing is it's modulair... ! saves me a big bunch of cables that are unused.

These rubbers are for reduce the fibration of the PSU, so the only thing you won't hear is a ultra low noise fan

Looks and feels a bit cheap, but if it works then i'm happy with it.

So the mobo has a bracket for the stock cooler, but the thing is, once a aftermarket cooler, always a aftermarket cooler.

So i found some old bits and pieces from the Silverstone NT06, it fits on a AM2 socket, so why not?

The MONSTER!!! of an 45wats CPU it's dual core 2x512KB, 2,6Ghz, so it's should the do job fine.

an OLD but LAPPED aftermarket cooler from a earlier build, it cools good and will be fitted with the tacens low noise fan... about 14dB, and already have an other Tacens fan orderded with PSI slot controller, between 9 and 12dB, 75 - 130m3/h max!

Got the ram installed, that's close but 1 of the 2 sticks will be cooled down quiet nice, the other... yeah to bad

HDD's mounted in the cage, sorry for the bad photo.... but the idea was to see that in fact they never touch the cage itself.

Slowly building everything in, it's a thight fit, but that's the idea of a 'mini' tower...

Attaching the cables are a pain in the ass to do, so little space, and still wanting to do a clean build. but i think it will work out just fine.

LOL!

can you say cable managment ?

Almost no cables to see ! and beacause of the seperate chamber for hardware and PSU, the bottom is not of importence for good cable managment

http://xs.to/xs.php?h=xs536&d=09080&f=img_0051986.jpg
The doors of this case are something different, they are double layerd and got isolation in them

Here's a closer look, the doors are plastic but feel solid, and the exterior is decorated with a plate of metal

i hereby end the build ! next will be photo's of OS, programs etc !

Stay Tuned !

thanks, i checked mailorder, parts will probably come in tommorow. still looking for a nice low profile cpu cooler. i was thinking of an zalman cnps8000 but read some reviews and they said it wasn't as quiet as zalman said it would be. so maybe an tacens gelus or an asus vortex. important thing is that it needs to be silent.

as soon as the parts are i will post some photo's...

Nice looking build. I totaly feel you when it comes to building a gaming rig. My first rig was a gaming rig, but I soom found all I did was watch movies and tv on it anyway. Thats when I built my HTPC.

As far as the zalman cnps8000 I think it's great, noise is relative. It depends on the room size sometimes. For example my rig is in my living room which is approx, 10'x20' and I never hear it.

Nice idea on the ambient lights, too.

Rufus is great! but don't think of me as an Bumfight fan... cause most ideas are really bad.... i just use him cause i like him and i like what they did to him. But thinking of using Keith Flint next time.... THE Prodigy is the world's greatest ! ! !

thanks guys !! ... yeah that was Spirits Within, just to give an idea of those Philips lights

i think i got the solution for a silent HSF. i still got an Silvestone NT06 lapped from the previous build, i will replace the fan with an tacens silent 12cm fan, max output of 14 dB.
