Default Silverstone LC16M case IR sensor problems\blu ray playback problems

Hi,

i just recently built a htpc and its great except its got 2 problems. 1st one is that i've never used one of these IR sensor remote things and it came with the case i have which is the Silverstone LC16M (shown here: http://www.silverstonetek.com/produc...no=lc16m&area= )
The front panel connectors are there but there are a whole lot of other connectors which ive got no idea where to put. the one im stumped about is i read in the manual and it says locate two connecters labelled 'GND'; one black one white; the manual also gave a picture showing two of them and tells you to put it into the power switch headers. The problem is, I don't know which 2 it wanted me to plug in, because it had about 4, and 2 of themwere connected to 2 blue wires of which the GND came off of one that was labelled VCC or something. the other one i found was off the end of a 1394 connecter. So if anyone knows where to plug it or which that would be alo of help.

phew, second problem is easier than that; i bought a blu ray optical drive for the htpc and it works fine except when i went to watch a blu-ray movie (oh and the driver CD for the blu ray player came with a blu ray playing player to watch blu rays but about 15 secs in it stops and says something like 'unable to enable HDCP' or something like that. I'm not sure what to do there.

the 1st problem from what i understand is that so you can use the remote that came with the case to power the unit(on/off), if you can take a pic of all the wires that come out of the IR i can locate them for you. as for your 2nd problem i dont have a BR player but you can try VLC and see if that gets rid of the problem

You can upload them as an attachment.

First, this applies to whenever you're creating a new thread, a new post, or a new reply regardless if you clicked the big Post Reply button, or if you clicked "Quote". On the page that appears, scroll down until you see this:

Silverstone LC16M case IR sensor problems\blu ray playback problems-manageattachments.jpg

Then click the Manage Attachments button, and then you'll see this:

Silverstone LC16M case IR sensor problems\blu ray playback problems-manageattachments2.jpg

Click any of the "Browse..." buttons, and then after selecting a file/pic from your HDD, click "Upload". This window also lists the supported file formats. And by the way: 24-bit bitmaps can be uploaded, but they won't work. At least they don't work for me. If you have multiple, then you can click Upload once you've selected as many as you have.

If you want to insert your attachments in your message the same way that I did, then you need the attachmentid. So, mouseover the URL of the uploaded attachment (you'll see it once it's uploaded), and look for the part of the URL that says "attachmentid=" in the status bar of your browser (you can do this in the Manage Attachments window too). Grab the 6-digit number that follows "attachmentid=".

For example, the attachmentid of my first attachment is 115319, so all I did was type , and the above is the end result.

This feature eliminates the need for using image hosting sites.

Oh, and if you want to post code the way that I did, then put around the code.

I'm a little not clear on what exactly is going on here. Can you try and be more descriptive about which components the wires, headers, and manuals you're referencing are associated with? In general, there should be power leads coming from the button on the case, and a corresponding header on the motherboard. I've read that in cases with a front IR receiver there may be an additional step: you connect the wires from the physical power button to a header on the IR receiver, then connect the wires from the IR receiver into the header on the motherboard.

NORMAL: Case -> Mobo
YOUR CASE(?): Case -> IR Rcvr -> Mobo

So whether you push the button on the front of the case, or use the remote to power it on the signal will pass through the IR receiver and into your motherboard.

HDCP is High Definition Content Protection, also known as DRM for HD-DVD & Blu-Ray content. All devices in a sytem have to be "HDCP Ready" or "Compatible" for the content to play digitally. This is essentially a certification process that ensures your device won't copy the signal & allow you to remove the HDCP so it can be played back on other devices, or transmitted over the internet.

You should be able to find something called "Blu-Ray Advisor" that will tell you which, if any, parts of your system aren't HDCP compliant. There's a couple of solutions going forward from there--you can spend money to replace the incompatible parts, or try to circumvent the protection that's keeping you from accessing the content you've legally purchased. There's a program called AnyDVD HD that will do the latter. Of course, it may be illegal in your jurisdiction to do so, and I wouldn't want to endorse breaking laws that violate your rights to fair use.

ok, so ive taken pics of the leads but they arent great quality. instead ill describe em here:
1) first is a 1394 lead which I don't think is connected to the IR however it does have 7 1-pin leads branching off of it. These are:
1. VG
2. TPB+
3. GND
4. TPA-
5. TPB-
6. VCC
7. TPA+
not sure if i need to connect these for the IR senor tho.
Next there are 2 blue colored wires of which at the end has a 3 pin lead on which the first wire is labelled from top to bottom:
+VCC
-D
+D
a single pin lead is also branching off and is black colored and labelled GND.
the second blue wire also has a 3 pin lead on which from top to bottom is labelled:
VCC1
USB1-
USB1+
perpendicular writing to this labelling is labelled 'creader'. i assume this lead is for the front panel's card reader.again a single pin lead is branching off and is black colored and also labelled GND

There is also a White lead that is labelled:
VCC1
Data1-
Data1+

Ok so here's where im confused. the manual says that the included 4 pin USB connector from the VFD must be connected to a USB header on the mobo. I've done that and it works. Then it says locate two female single wire leads colored in black and red. The black wire should have the connector labeled 'GND'. There are about 4 or 5 GND single connectors in total that i found and most of them were black and there were no red ones, the only non black one i found was a brown colored one.

regarding the pwr switch -> IR unit -> mobo header that seems to be the way this is connected. The manual asks that you connect your power switch connector from the front panel to the dual pin header from the ir module which i did correctly. So it seems all good except i dont know where most of the leads listed go on my motherboard (which on the htpc is just a gigabyte EP45 board)

i know this is probably really confusing but any help is appreciated

There's a very good chance the black & red "single wires" could actually be a twisted pair. Any of the black wires labeled "GND" that are paired with the USB, Card Reader (also USB) and/or Firewire can be ignored.

The power switch wires are going to go on the appropriate pins for the mobo header. If your board is similar to this one:

that would be the two red pins in the "top" row, towards the middle. Your non-ground ("GND") wire--allegedly red--would go on the pin with the "+" sign in black at the base, and the ground wire to the other pin.
