Well, I just finish converting my laptop into a mini HTPC; unfortunately though, I didn't do all the research

They both run on Windows 7 and the whole Live Mesh is rather confusing for me. From my understanding I could use an Xbox 360 but it really kills what I'm trying to do. The streaming feature on Windows Media player doesn't include a Live TV option, or maybe I just can't find it. Basically, I ordered Sunday Ticket via DTV and I'm holding a BBQ the next couple of Sundays . Was hoping I could put a 40incher outside while I'm maning the grill.

Look into Orb or Tversity. See if one of those will work for what you want to do.

The Xbox MCE does have the live tv feature. I would get the Xbox set up as it will be the fastest way to do it. You can also stream ORB to your xbox dashboard and xbox MCE so it covers everything. Once you get that set, you can work on getting your HTPC setup knowing that you have a backup already in place.
