Default stuttering video

I have an old rig that I wanted to use as an HTPC and it hasn't been going well. It's running a Pentium 4 650(3.4 gHz 2MB L2 cache) with 2GB DDR3200 ram. I picked up an Asus AH3450 512MB video card that is supposed to be HD ready. It plays DVDs but when streaming videos from sites like hulu I get a lot of stuttering. Is it just not up to par or am I missing something??

It might be your internet. go to www.speedtest.net and take a speed test then post the result's. If the video card is playing DVD's fine this is what i can narrow it down to.
Good Luck!

I've thought about that too but my wife's macbook plays just fine over a wireless connection. My speedtests usually clock ~10mb.

make sure your drivers are up to date. I run HD video just fine on my HTPC with onboard video, so its either your video card drivers, or your CPU, and I doubt its the latter.

Use Hulu Desktop and see if that doesn't fix your problem.

You should be doubting it's the former instead. Flash doesn't do accelerated video decoding.

Your CPU is too slow. Or rather, the Flash decoder is too slow, and your CPU is at the low end.

Is it only Hulu?

Hulu is known to have stuttering. I experience it when running at the higher resolution and can't figure it out. It's not my CPU (Athlon X2 2.2GHz), not my memory (4GB), not my GPU (HD3200@600MHz), and not my network (12Mbps with QoS). I think it's a Flash issue...

I was messing around with it last night and while on fullscreen the processor is at ~80%. It seems like hulu is the worst but it does it on ABC too. Do you think a mild overclock would help at all?? I have another old mobo that has a lot of overclocking features in the bios that I could swap in. Think it will help at 4.0gHz??

OC'ing cannot hurt, worst case.. it won't work better. I have an older Athlon XP system with a 7800gs that runs about everything I throw at it. Streaming sites, especialyl hulu are not very stable
