I was browsing doom9 about ripbot264 and saw a question about win7 codecs. the response has a link to a program that allows you to change what decodes your audio/video formats.
As of right now, i'm unsure about the h.264 aspect of it, but i can say that i have ffdshow decoding my dd/dts audio streams. (i have coreavc but no 32bit windows media player/media center to test with) Here is the original site that is hosting it. I hope this helps anyone who was looking for better h.264/vc-1 decoding and audio options, also for those who use xvid/divx. http://www.codecguide.com/windows7_p...er_tweaker.htm

I like to use graphedit to manipulate codecs and such. It's nice if you're not sure which codecs are doing what. Simply drag and drop the video file into the editor. It's nice for building graphs too to see what codecs give you proper and best function.
