Sorry for the n00b question...
__________________My 55" Bravia has a bunch of HDMI inputs and a PC 15pin-vga input. Up until now I've been using the PC input. I'm looking at a new video card and can pay a little more and get the same card with HDMI. Why would or wouldn't I want to use HDMI instead of PC input? Appreciate all input. cheers, Ed

HDMI - Pure digital signal for both audio and video.
It's the cream of the crop.

I get 1920x1080 out of the PC input so I guess thats a wash.
__________________Build in Audio - so I wouldn't have to run the cable from the sound card - no big deal I guess.. What's e-peen? I remember long ago reading about some "copy protection" or something that was cable related.. was that HDMI related??? I can't for the life of me remember what the details were.

Curious - how is the audio processed? Is it still processed through the onboard sound on the motherboard?

That's HDCP. Certain HD media require a digital connection, HDCP video card, and HDCP TV/monitor otherwise you get either nothing or a lower-res video.

e-peen: internet slang for ego, pride, or attitude in the virtual world. long standing net definition for the age old "bigger penis" argument.

the sound is processed from the source as hdmi audio is uncompressed. and just for the record, HDMI is the best video/audio interface on the market right now so i'd go with the hdmi input over the pc input.

Definitely get HDMI- the VGA input is an analog signal so it is affected by noise, degradation of all sorts. Plus, it carries digital audio over the same cable as well. Definitely worth the $40 IMO.
