Default How to catelog backed up TV series (DVD)?

Hey guys,

I setup MediaPortal last night and it looks beautiful! I'm pleased, however, I cannot add some of my backed up TV series' that I have.

I have all the seasons of Entourage on DVD that I backed up to my computer. Since each backup is a compilation of multiple episodes, mediaportal can't understand this because it is looking for individual episodes.

Does anyone have a solution to this (without ripping to xvid/mpg)?

I would think that unless each episode was named and ripped individually there would be no way for it to identify each episode. I assume they are still in a VIDEO_TS folder with .VOB, .IFO, .BUP files. It would have to me able to identify from the .IFO which VOB is which episode. (if in fact each VOB represents an individual episode in its entirety) I don't think that it can do that. The only way I think you could do it is to take something like DVDshrink and rip each Title seperately and name each one by its episode name. I don't know for sure though. Maybe someone else can say for certain.

I would guess that in their current structure you can only sort them by
TV Series Name/Season X/Disc Y

Media portal can actually mount the DVD and play them. You can do this natively under the "My Videos". You can get around the naming thing for the dvd by using hardlinks and renaming the iso files the names of the epiosodes so it looks like you have 40 gb of iso files but it is really just hardlinks to the orignal file so it only takes the space of the 1 iso.
What are you using to play your tv shows? the plugin called MyTvSeries? if not it is worth checking out. However there is a bug right now with it that it scans iso files if you set it to scan them and it hangs the plugin. This should be fixed soon i hope!!!!

Thank's for the response, but I don't have them saved as ISO's I have them saved as VOB files (the exact rip). And yes, I am using MyTVSeries.

I am new to it, what are hardlinks?

Basically pointer files to a spot on an ntfs file system.
Essentially every file is just a hardlink pointing to a spot on an ntfs file system, but here we create multiple ones. Then you can name them anything you want. it still points to the original location. If you physically change any of the data inside the file, all the hardlinks will reflect the change.
Make sense?

Ah yes. I will investigate this later today. Kudos! So, say I create these hardlinks for each episode of each season I have on DVD. How do I get MyTVSeries to pick these up as tv episodes?

Name them properly like SeriesNameS01E01 if there are a bunch of episodes in the file do some hardlinks and name them SeriesNameS01E01, SeriesNameS01E02, SeriesNameS01E03 etc
It looks like it would take up a bunch of space but they are hardlinks so they dont.
Once you select the episode you would have to jump to the correct location or whatever.
Iso's are easy cause they have menus
Although your files might also, i dont know.
