Default Need help with HTPC

Just put together an HTPC; Core 2 Duo E7500, Asus P5N7A-VM mobo,4GB Crucial Ballistix DDR2 800. Anyways currently I am using the on-board NVIDIA GeForce 9300 through HDMI to transmit the sound and video to my Toshiba 40" LCD TV @ 1080p.

The problem is that every few seconds, the TV says Video Signal Lost. I temporarily fixed it by setting the TV to game mode but then I noticed the sound was off. It would kind of pop, then the sound would get loud, then lower back down. Any ideas what could cause this? I was very skeptical in getting on-board video for my HTPC but had several people tell me otherwise.

I think I may just go out and purchase a graphics card. Would this help? Should I not run the sound through my HDMI connection? Or should I just get a different motherboard? I'll take any input from you guys.

i kind of had some issues with my onboard 9300 as well. I think the HDMI output is kind of flaky. What i did was bought a DVI to HDMI cable for the video and used the digital coax output and hooked it up to my reciever for audio. Worked like a charm and no problems so far

That's a good idea and definitely a lot cheaper than spending the money on a new card. Thanks man

dvi to hdmi works, you will need an audio input to your tv though. I know that the 9400 hdmi runs fine. Guess the 9300 just doesnt cut it.

Have you checked the drivers? I would contact the mobo manufacture.

Just an update. Got some new cables so I can hook up from DVI to HDMI and everything is working perfectly! And instead of using HDMI to transmit sound I just got an 1/8 cable that splits into 2 rca jacks.

I've the XFX variant of the 9300 series board and have had no issues with audio/video through HDMi at all...though I seem to be a minority.
just out of curiosity, how hot is your chipset/gpu running? I'm considering getting the NB/sli cooler as I read it was quiet effective. I idle in the mid 80s, load goes as high as 94
