Default Jittering/Stuttering Playback?

Hey all,

My HTPC seems to constantly jitter when watching a film or tv show, when i use VLC player, it jitters.

But when i use Cyberlink Powerdvd 9, it does the same but it sometimes completly crashes aswell

It does it when i watch a Blu-Ray (disc), Standard DVD(disc), or a video file?

I am confused, i haven't updated the gpu drivers just yet, but i have done before and the same problems were occurring?

HTPC Specs

I'm starting to get slightly annoyed with it now, it's just about bearable after a few

I'd check temperatures first, then look into any antivirus software running and possibly scanning during playback.

Temps are all good

But avast Professional does scan in the background actually, maybe it's that... I will investigate

report back with what you find out. Look at the harddisk activity during playback. Perhaps and indexing service is running?

Well after turning off avast scanning while watching a film it didn't jitter

Now im not sure if this is a temporary fix or it will permanently stay like this without jittering.

Thanks A Lot

I had constant jitters while using an 8800GT, they were especially bad in Bluray and occasional in everything else. Going to a 4850 fixed it for me.

With watching movies, encoding or burning them.. you should do anything else or there is a chance of stuttering, especially a virus scan. Why do you need to scan while you are watching or doing stuff on your computer anyways?

Right well, after a month or so of turning avast off, it has started again (when its turned off).

So it cant be avast

Is it worth me trying an ATi card do you think?
Or i was looking at these:

LINK (will this cope with blu-ray?)
LINK 2

(the 8800gt is an extremly tight fit, so i cant have anything bigger)
