Default Why pay the premium for a Harmony remote?

I know a lot of you guys have the Harmony remote... To me, it looks like any other universal remote, just with a LCD screen on it with Macros... I'm curious, tell me what you guys use it for and why you like it.

I hate it.

Got mine for half price but can't figure out how to use it as a straight programmed remote - everything appears to require macros.

I picked up a second B&K AV 7.1 for $25 when the local HiFi Buys closed (they were $200 MSRP). Hope they never break, as I've never found anything else that comes close.

I have two and love them both. Although I prefer my 670 over the 659 because of the layout on the 670. I love the degree of versatility they have. I can (and need) to adjust timings and the order things are powered on. If there are things on my computer I want to control I can find a random remote and steel some IR codes off it and link them to other buttons. Having one button to turn all my crap on is awesome. That makes things nice for the girlfriend and anyone else who uses it. Sometimes It makes it so I don't need 4 remotes. Setup can take a lot of time when getting intricate with it, but that's my only gripe. Wait I have two. They tend to eat batteries. But I bought a rechargeable set with a backup set so that really doesn't bother me anymore. And I had some money to burn so i thought what the hell.

First I got the 890 for my living room (juggling 8 remotes was getting real annoying), and I liked it so much I got the 520 for my bedroom just for kicks.

But now after using both I think the only one out of the entire line that's worth getting is the 890/890Pro, simply because having only 4 custom buttons is a royal pain and normal universal remotes are easier. But with 8 buttons, I wouldn't trade that thing up for any other remote under $1000.

I agree, I got the 890 about a year and half ago and I would not use anything else. I've changed components and all I have to do is log into my Logitech account, swap out the components, let it reprogram and presto, good as gold. The only thing I have noticed is the LCD color is starting to fade a bit, but it is still readable and is awesome in my dark living room at night. I don't have to fumble with 6 different remotes in the dark which is nice.

I just bought a Harmony 520 from the Egg for $59.99 and I already have (and love) a Harmony 360. Now I just need to figure out how to make it control WMC.

friend had a harmony, they may seem sweet, but the fact of using favorites and mixing up simple functions causing the remote not to get back into a big dilemma is just plain and simple boring. the remote i had tested at my friends house was a harmony one, and we had it back in the store faster then we bought it

simple fact, the harmony is lacking a sync feature, to tell it whats goin on in reality. all it really is is a nice added lcd to a basic plain and neutral (kinda like a $ 5) universal remote.

we used it for : tv, hd dvd player, br player, home theatre receiver (denon), direct tv box, and a small kitchen stereo

mixups were set in stone when we programed it to do stuff as it should (turn direct tv box + tv on, on right channel...), then changed to the stereo and what not, then you have to go all the way back to activitys and find your way back to what you were doin in the first minute.

I got the Harmony 670 from Amazon for $29 shipped, thought it would be great. I have used the remote once and put it down. Just way to much setup and it never worked the way I thought it should.

Does anyone here know how to make the darned thing work as a basic, multi-device remote? Without using all the macros?

All I want is to press DVD, and then control my DVD. Press Dish, and control my Dish DVR. Have some way to switch inputs on my TV, and control volume on my external amp. The only thing the power button needs to do is turn on (and off) the TV - the other devices are on 24/7 anyway..
