Default VHS-C format to DVD?

We have a lot of old VHS-C tapes from the old video camera. I want to dump them to DVD. Would it be as simple as using a vcr with a cable out to a capture card on the computer - once on the computer then burn to DVD?

You would need a TV Card that can record. But yes, essentially it is that simple.

You connect your VCR to your TV Card, and have it record your Media, and then burn that off to DvD.

For protection purposes, I would suggest keeping all of your VHS's

Keep the VHS-C tapes? Really??? I would have thought that once the dump is complete get rid of the tapes since tapes do degrade.

Well, legally, it's ok to transfer a VHS to DvD if you have the VHS, but if you do not, then it's technically illegal.

I think he means home movies, which can be put to DVD without keeping the VHS, if he wanted to dump VHS movies then yes he would need to keep the VHS.

My Grandmother is going down this path right now and has managed to dump the load on me. She bought this USB to compsosit but the software and the thing itself is so compliciated I just gave up. I told her it would be easier to just buy a DVD player that has a VHS player on it.

So she bought one and all you need to do is push a button to copy them. So what I did was took all the DVDs and clonded them to my PC. From there edit out the parts of home movies I want. Stored them on my HDD and made DVD copies.

My experiecne with the VHS to PC would of been easier but it wasnt that simple for me. I tried various software and it just didnt seem to work out well.

I've done this before actually so you may be in luck. Lots of the old ATi and nVidia cards had VIVO which allowed you to not even have to buy a capture card. You just installed the drivers, then use any video editor software to capture the video off the tape and edit it.

I recommend magix movie edit, as it's very easy to use; Windows movie maker should work also. Virtual Dub is a powerful free software, but it is difficult to use.

As an example, I recorded a bunch of Tony hawk footage onto a VHS tape then ripped it to my pc with magix, this video came out:
