Default Remote Control w/ RDP/MSTSC/Whatever?

Heya,

Got a P4D 3.0GHz with a 4670 running Windows XP SP3 Media Center Edition.

After trying various setups with remotes and wireless mouse/keyboard, I've found the easiest way to remote control is through Logmein on my laptop. (My laptop is almost always on, next to my bed)

One problem though - no sound through the Logmein *free*. I understand you can do sound through RDP/MSTSC, but I can't access the viewing screen when trying to connect. (Yes, tried /admin and /console)

I'm wondering if there's a way to MSTSC/RDP into my computer and control the 'shared session', the one that's visible on my TV - not a hidden session.

The reason sound would be nice is that my TV is too far away for headphones, and it'd be nice to just hook the pair up to my laptop while I'm watching.

I'm connecting from Windows 7 Ultimate. I'd be fine changing the OS on the HTPC, and none of the Media Center features have ANY use for me so even something like Server 2008 would be fine.

Any advice?

you know xp can do the same thing as log me in for free too and you can open up a file and make it so you can auto log in to that pc. then all you have to do is get on said pc and send out an invite via windows live messanger to what ever pc you wanna acces with. the mod to do auto log in is really simple tip use the find function on note pad to find the exact lines of code.

Huh? I'm not sure I follow. I can already use my laptop as a 'remote' for my HTPC via LogMeIn but I want to transfer sound through the connection so I can use headphones on my laptop to listen to what I'm watching.

Oh well, just curious. Thanks anyway!

no reason for logmein... try remote desktop... it will transfer the sound... as far as latency is concerned their might be issues...

If he used remote desktop it would mean he would have to watch from his laptop instead of his tv though
