Default VGA To Component

I have a laptop that only has a VGA output and I want to hook it up to my Sony 55" HDTV. Would a VGA to component cable work? It makes sense that it would but I would like to know before I buy one.

Would this work?

it SHOULD work, even if both signals are not digital. The problem is that if your tv doesn't scale the signal, then your picture will be cropped or poor color quality. But for less than $8 shipped, you won't be totally screwed if it doesn't work

EDIT: after some googleing, i don't think it will work. Most websites that sell that kind of cable say it won't work unless the video card is capable of outputting in the Y/ Pb /Pr format (ie tv-ready video card)

A comment on amazon from someone who bought it says that it will not work for that.

I found the same things a few months ago and put off buying one. I thought I would get a second opinion on here. Thanks.

A: This depends greatly on the output & input options available. I'll try to address some common options and provide links to solutions.
O = output (from computer), I = input (into television)
O: VGA -> I: Composite (Yellow RCA plug)
O: VGA -> I: S-Video
O: VGA -> I: Component (YPbPr - red, green & blue plugs)
O: VGA -> I: SCART (European, mostly)
O: DVI -> I: VGA
O: DVI -> I: HDMI
O: S-video -> I: Composite (Yellow RCA plug)
Hope this helps.

What make/mode is your laptop? IS there a 4 or 7-pin output on it? What graphics card is in it? Depending on what you got will give you options.
