Everytime I install new drivers and need to restart, my computer restarts but then my computer screen becomes completely numb. Being unable to do anything, I need to shut down my PC the hard way everytime (holding the power button down) and restart it.
__________________When I do, it gives me an Overclocking failed message and I have to reload my default settings to continue (even though I haven't started overclocking at all, the bios has barely ever been tempered with so far except for boot order to install XP) Mobo is Asus P5K Deluxe with latest beta BIOS, but it gave me the same errors when I had a non-beta BIOS... The board is brand new and I'm certain my connections from my Case (Antec 900) to my mobo are done properly. I can reset without any problems when I'm in XP and press the button. Hope you guys can help me on this one

Noticed alot of members having problems with the P5 series motherboards. A cmos reset usually does the trick but when i look at the troubles you are having a rma might be in place. If anyone disagrees with me pls say so.

Second that. Look into an RMA, m8. I was actually going through the same type of issues on my first MSI board, rma'd it and the next one was fine.

Well, the retailer normally only does 14 days to 30 days depending on where you bought it. Most motherboard companies will warranty their boards for 6 months to a year, mostly a year from what I've seen. Start making your phone call now, I'm sure you won't have an issue.

They cover the boards for a year, so if its faulty it will be repaired, or yourl likely get another refurb. Try changing the cmos battery?

Could the CMOS battery really be related to the fact that the computer won't reboot properly? I should recheck the Q Connector again... I really really hate RMAs... Not even talking about taking out the motherboard from the case.

Try a full CMOS reset and by that I mean leave the reset jumper on for at least 10-15 minutes. Some how P5K still holds the data even after CMOS reset and the only way it would reset to defaults is to leave jumper on for minutes rather than seconds.Very odd !

Unplug Power, Take the battery out of the motherboard, put the CMOS jumper on clear CMOS position and leave it for 30 minutes or more (or even over night).
__________________Then put jumper on original position, put the battery back in, plug the power and boot to BIOS and select reset to defaults and re boot and you are done
