Overclocker in Training

Hey guys, so far so good on the F8 BIOS update. As Gigabyte pointed out, I had significant issues with the F7 and had to roll back to the F6 previously but thus far the F8 seems to be working fine. My q6600 overclock is still stable at 3.51ghz and my Crucial Ballistix are cranking along at 780mhz (1:1 linked) with 3-3-3-10 timings. I've rebooted a number of times (cold and warm) and so far the settings are sticking.
I'll have to give this a day or two more before I can officially say I'm stable but thus far it looks good. Oh, and thank goodness they finally report the actual voltages in the PC Health screen and did away with that silly Ctrl+F1 thing for the advanced menu.

OK think ive found a bug here.....I cant manually set my cpu voltage.Im running at 3.4=425 FSB with 1.39v..Thats with bios F6. easytune reports it F8at 1.45v I tried to set it both in bios and Easytune and at my current overclock F8 keeps pushing my volts back up to 1.45v you guys getting this also?? Not much time spent on testing, but this voltage thing was the first thing I noticed as not being set right

EDIT: No offence.. but do you have system voltages on manual control? Auto will adjust volts by itself which are 95% of the time too little or too much.

Reflashed twice had some weird isses getting into widows,Yes I cleard it out...pulled power plug from psu and battery from cmos.Voltages are set to manual also,Its like the bios is trying to throttle my cpu voltages? Everything else seems fine,I even reinstalled easytune thinking maybee it was the proggy missreading......Strange

Question though. In theory if you need 1.406V idle and 1.396V under load to overclock a particular CPU to 3.5GHz, and the VCore is set to 1.44375V in BIOS. Then a BIOS update like this comes out which reduces the amount of VDrop. So now the VCore only needs to be 1.415V or something like that to obtain the same voltages under load: 1. Should the CPU run cooler because of this? The VCore is set lower, but what you are pushing to the chip is still the same. 2. Would you need less voltage to the CPU if there was less VDrop or won't that matter? So if before the update I saaw 1.396V under load with CPU-Z would it be equally stable with less voltage? Thanks. JR Edit: After testing, my idle/load voltages need to be the same to stay stable even though the VCore is now lower. Also the temps do not change any since the voltages making it to the chips still need to be the same. Now if they can get rid of the VDroop like they did lowering the VDrop that would be awesome. Not sure how you change this with BIOS updates since most people are doing cap or pencil mods, but power to them.

I have the P35C DS3R In my case it's the F7 update? I'm looking at the Disk i got with my MOBO and am i reading it right, do i have f2 Bios
![]() ![]() Also when i run that update utility that comes with my disk it says that i can update but doesn't tell me what the current bios i have is? Also will it screw up my overclock if I update my bios especially if it's from f2?

Metalica732, not to be jerky, but this thread is for GIGABYTE P35-DS4 F8 bios update discussions, not a different motherboard. Please post a new thread with your question.

Yes that is true but since we are all talking about the same mobo maker the same chipset and just diffrent versions then in my book it is ok to speak about it. Plus everybody has fresh recollection of the topic at hand so why spam the forum when i can get help here
