Well, thats interesting. I posted a bug about the F7 BIOS to the Gigabyte team a week ago (after some GigaByte and DuckyDude helped me isolate my issue) and got an e-mail a few days ago saying they were investigating the issue. They asked me to "continue to use F6 for now while we investigate the issue further".

Now there is an F8 bios? Humm.. I'm sure their investigation into the overclock stability issues with the F7 bios probably had little to do with this update but it sure does seem like an interesting coincidence. However, the thought that a bug found by the Overclocker.net community resulted in a new BIOS release is in interesting thought.

Hardware wise yes, but need bios update. 45nm ready bios' will start coming as/before the 45nms launch.

Holy s... I recommend all users with this boad and revision to upgrade to F8 immediately! This bios is wonderfull!

Changes:
-Penryn support
-Voltage values now displayed in bios instead of "OK" or "FAIL"
-No more CTRL+F1 to display RAM timings
-Vdroop reduction, vcore more close to the actuall setting in bios (still no vdroop under load)
-CPU speed now shown in real time as you adjust FSB and multi
-More I probably haven't noticed yet

These changes are exactly what people asked GIGABYTE for, and they listened Works great so far, hope it runs well for all of you.

Wow, I might just have to consider doing that... does it require a floppy? Or USB stick? Or is it just a .exe you run?

You can use the Gigabyte @Bios utility that comes with your mobo install disc and it will do it all for you. Remember this bios is for the DS4 Rv 2.0, I don't know if the DS3L has any new bios out.

Thanks for the overview of the changes Gigabyte. As you know, I have had a bad go of it with the F7 so I was a bit resistant to changing up to the F8 now that I have F6 working so well but based on what you have said I'm sure I will give it a go. I had read that some of the other Gigabyte boards had similar changes (actual voltages, no more Ctrl+F1, etc) so I had suspected we would see those settings soon on the DS4. It's nice to see a manufacturer listen to the community and refine their product to meet the needs of the users.

F7 has a problem with PC8500 Ballistix, you have Ripper Joe have duo and quad respectively so its not a CPU detection problem, but you both got the same Ballistix and have errors on F7 bios, hope F8 fixes Ballistix compatibility problems because this bios is lovely.
