Quicky question
I'm hoping to get an Asus Maximus Formula and an E8400. I know I ned to update the BIOS before the MoBo will recognize the new 45nm cpu; I'm asking because I've read numerous times: "Use your old s775 65nm cpu first and flash your BIOS,then put in your new 45nm chip" I have no old s775 Intel cpu (Long time AMD User ) Can I flash the BIOS with the E8400 not being "recognized"? Any suggestions for my Options?

Yeah you could. Just put the BIOS update on a floppy and boot to it. Thats if you have a floppy drive though.

(But, Yea I do have an old floppy!) The Boot to it issue is the crux of my question: Can I even Boot without a processor? (An unrecognized processor would equate to not even having one installed?!?) Cheers

Thanks Vincent and B&B,
Thats exactly what I thought, Seems silly to buy a CPU ( no-matter how cheap) just to use it to flash the BIOS then remove it and put in te E84/500! I wonder if I can get the MF pre-flashed at TheEgg? Hmmm? Cheers

You can flash a BIOS with an "unsupported" CPU, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it. But I guess it would depend on how far you are getting. If you can boot into Windows with the CPU, I don't see a problem with flashing. I did with my Q6600 G0 and EVGA 680i. But if you get problems even trying boot, then I'd say no. You wouldn't want a lock-up during flash, which is a main concern. That would render your board useless.

Well if his motherboard did what mine did (Would start, but not post, then keep restarting) then he cannot flash the bios, I had to buy a cheap pentium just to flash.
Now I have a E2180 and have zero use for it.

CyberDruid is a MotherboardPro reseller
![]() I'm sure for a small fee he could unpack your board and flash the BIOS?
