Default nVidia 780i SLI question

yeah just wondering about the 780i, i know it comes a tri-SLI bridge but would it work if you only put two graphics cards in?

You mean using the trisli bridge with two cards don't you? I would doubt that, you would probably need a two card bridge.

All new 780i boards come with both types of SLi bridge, one for two cards and a second for three cards.

ahh ok so you can have 2 cards on it. Also can you have any 3 cards like say 3 8800GTS's or do they have to be ultras?

For Tri SLI you can only use GTX and Ultras. The cards both have a second SLI bridge connector on them. The GTS and GTs will only allow for 2 cards in SLI and only have 1 SLI bridge connector on them.

See on these ultras how they have 1 sli bridge connected, but still have another connection on each card:




And here the 8800GT cards only have a single SLI connection each:

bugger, dunno what to do, really want the 780i, but atm i got a 8800GTS might buy another and go 2 way sli... wanted to go 3 way some day but guess it aint gonna happen. also will the new 9 series graphics card be able to fit on the mobo/3 way sli?
