So I upgraded my Mobo to a GIGABYTE GA-G33M-S2L, and all good so far

I don't mean to ask the obvious here but you have used CTRL + F1 to open all options right? If so the only other thing I can think is maybe give memset a shot.

Yea, for gigabyte boards, you have to go into the main bios screen, press and hold Ctrl+F1. Then once you go into the M.I.T. screen, memory timing and voltage controls are all there.
