I'm really way behind the curve here and I'm an Old Fart on top of it. After 5 years with a DELL Dimension 8200 2.4GHz I decided I needed a new System. I hope the new system specs show up otherwise I'll have to edit this post and put them in.

Anyway, I get the new system and it BSOD's randomly as there's nothing I can find to MAKE it crash. Microsoft says it's a Device Driver but can't tell which one is doing it. After 3 week trying to figure it out I call the builder PCUSA, tech says "You might as well update your ASUS P5N-E SLI BIOS from 0803 to 0901, can't hurt and if it does then ship it back. Just download the 0901 file, uzip it to a Flash Drive and use the onboard EZ Flash 2 in the BIOS to update it.

Now I'm damn near 60 years old and though I've been playing with computers for over 15 years I'm no where a Tech by a long shot. Everything I read about a BIOS update talks about a .rom file but the BIOS0901.zip file I down loaded from ASUS when unzipped has a 1KB txt file and a 512KB BIN file. There is no .rom file anywhere when unzipped.

Plus when I go to the manual for the P5N-E SLI the instructions to use EZ Flash 2 are about a paragraph short and doesn say anything about how to back up or save your BIOS settings in case something goes wrong. And that scares the HE!! out of me after reading the horror stories of people screwing up their BIOS updates.

I keep seeing posts about the onboard EZ Flash 2 being the most stable way of updating your BIOS on an ASUS board but can't find a Step-by-Step instruction on actually doing it even on the ASUS Site.

Anyone got any ideas? This old fart needs help

If you installed the tools that came with your motherboard then the flashing utility should be one of them. With that you can update through the internet directly using that program. (EZ-FLASH 2) After that it does it for you. If you don't feel comfortable doing that because I think at one point there was a problem with that program bricking mobo's, then just download the BIOS file from ASUS and don't unzip it. Then use the option to update from file or something like that, navigate to the file you downloaded and it does it all for you. I updated my P5B BIOS recently and there didn't seem to be any troubles with it. Hope that helps

Edit: here is the link to the bios and bios utility
put in your specs Motherboards>LGA775>P5N-E SLI
then expand bios, download the latest one
then expand bios utilities, download the latest one for your OS
