I have a p4p800-vm in another rig that desperately needs a bios update. I am using a cd to do it.
I type in afudos /iP4P800-VM-1017.003 and it says "Starting, blah blah don't turn off system" and than it says "Rom file not compatible with this bios" Even though i KNOW that this is my motherboard, and that is the right file. What's going on here...

Tried a floppy or memory stick yet?
Try a flash from bios menu (if available).

Does it have an easyflash utility alt+f2 (I believe) to flash it from the bios using a usb stick? that's the easiest.
or use a usb stick, boot to dos, run the flash utility.

i've always heard to use a floppy. My asus wont update either using the update utility and i was just gonna grab a floppy from a buddy, download the bios to it, update it and return the floppy.

No one uses or has a floppy anymore.

I've never flashed from Windows, so I'm not to sharp on it.

I read it and it says that the only requirements are to clear cmos before it does it and after. Everything in between is done by the program...
I guess I'll try it.

Now this is REALLY weird...
The motherboard clearly says "P4P800-VM" on it, but asus update too and a CD in DOS tell me that the bios is not correct for my motherboard. ???
