Hi, I am completely new to overclocking and I've just put together a new machine and I was hoping to get some help to get the most out of it. I went into the bios and was overwhelmed by all the setting to adjust... Please help!

Raising CPU PLL on the P5E will allow you to get a lower vcore. For suicide runs disable static read.

Do us a favor and list your specs. We'll appreciate it and you can show off your rig.
Top of page => User CP => Add System/Edit System => let 'er rip Take a gander at this too.

Should read one of the tuts in the intel forums here. They have some really good info. If you get stuck lots of people here will help.
But to start off set your memory to 5-5-5-15 manually. They're the first 4 memory settings in bios. Then give them about 2.2volts. Set your nb voltage to about 1.55 volts. Set your cpu vcore t0 1.3 volts then start raising your fsb frequency in 5MHz increments until you can't boot windows or get the machine to post. Then either back the fsb down or increase voltages. Oh and set the strap to 400 so that you run 1:1 on memory to fsb or set it to auto and select a memory speed that is twice the fsb frequency you dial in, which will have the same effect as running 1:1. Twice the fsb because you're running dual channel so their rated speed is 2x. Just keep tweaking, and remember that higher voltage gives stability at higher speeds, but too high will damage your components, and as you speed up you processor, it will also affect your memory speed (overclock) your memory. Hope that makes sense. When you do get a stable speed you like, then start lowing voltages and memory timings to tweak it even more.

OK, so I've applied those settings and the core speed is 3.4! Really happy with that, so I might tinker with it a bit later. Thanks for all your help!

I think you have all info in users manual that came with your board...
Here is great info too: http://support.asus.com/download/dow...n-us&model=P5E ...btw, I started to learn about Ocing almost two years ago, and I still am...and nowdays see many guys that want to OC, and write about it in their first post, without any read, just ramp the FSB...lol I admire their courage... ![]()
