Default Update BIOS?

First time owning an ASUS motherboard and I already want to throw it out the damn window.

Anyway, how the hell do I update the BIOS on the ASUS P5Q-E? I tried downloading AFUDOS but it won't install. Then I download the ASUS Update tool thing. I tried updating bios from internet but it won't connect for some reason and I tried update bios from file but that started giving me stupid errors.

I searched the ASUS website and I came across a guide. Well, it tells me to download AFUDOS and, I think, put it on a CD and then boot in DOS. ***? I have no idea what the hell DOS is.

So, does anyone know how to update this stupid BIOS? Also, I currently have v610. Do I have to update to v704 then v803 or can I just update to v803?

generally, you'd need a floppy drive and disk and place the files they give you on there.

I dont know specifically for ASUS, but for DFI, there's a BIOS flash utility called WinFlash that you can run in Windows as an alternative method for people without floppy drives

I don't have a floppy drive though. It tells me I can put it on a CD or USB drive but the problem is that I don't know how to boot in DOS.

Ya I have no idea why it gives me errors with the utility tool. It like shows up a blank box with a blank button. I click the blank button and I get another one of those boxes, click the button again and it tells me update failed or something.

Updating BIOS w/ USB stick is simple. I'm lazy and don't feel like typing the explanation so.. here is a link on how to do it. The trick is nocely explained by Loggan26 from DFI Club forum.

regards,
erico
