Hi all, long time no post...
__________________Anyway I'm trying to update my bios from 401 to the latest 1201 using the built in EZFlash 2 utility. Unfortunately every time I select the new bios off the CD (only media that will show up in EZFlash 2) it gives me an error that reads "Downgraded ROM file was not suitable for the system". I've even tried to update to the previous versions (505 - 1101) with the same error message. Any ideas what could be the problem here and a solution? Thanks, 32oz

Don't you have to put the new BIOS on a floppy and rename it to what it says in the mobo manual?

Most updates ive done Ive left the file on my desktop, unzipped and booted into bios and looked for it on the main drive. Updated several times this way and no problem. Try downloading your bios file again. Ive gotten corrupt files from asus's site before and their server goes down constantly so theres no telling. Its worth a try though.

if i remember corrently i believe 1203 is the best working bios for your 680i board.. try resetting cmos and Flash again.

I used a flash drive to update to 1201. I just downloaded it off of the website, transferred it onto the flash drive and rebooted. Everything worked fine.

I see more and more problems with the ASUS EZ Flash. I only DOS flash my ASUS boards for this reason alone. I find it much easier and more reliable to flash the bios via a bootable USB:
1. Make a USB bootable drive using this creator: USB Boot drive (HPUSBFW) 2. Then download the boot files and extract them to a folder of your choice 3. Run the HPUSBFW program. ![]() Select the correct USB device from the drop-down menu, set file system to FAT32 and check Create a DOS startup disk. 4. Then browse for the extracted boot files (now in the folder of your choice) and press start to begin formating it. 5. Once the device is done, Copy the AFUDOS and your bios.rom (rename it to new.rom) file (unzip it) to the USB drive (you will not see the boot files on it). 6. You will then restart and go into bios to load default bios options. Then set the ram voltage and reboot (plug in the USB drive into the back USB port at this time). Then, while the PC is booting up, press F8 to enter the boot option. Select the USB drive. 7. At the C: type afudos /inew.rom /pbnc /n 8. The bios will then begin flashing. Dont do anything until the bios is finished flashing and you are instructed to reboot. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here is the ASUS ftp site or ASUS ftp site (2 different sites) to download all the latest drivers and bios for your board.

I would not recommend windows based flashing as it is to risky.

I tried mine that way this go around as well though ive yet to have an issue with either way unless the file itself was corrupt. I used a usb 1gb card this go around and went into bios and used EZ Flash. The program you use to do it within windows always gave me a hassle though but i just tried it out once to see how it worked.
