what causes my boot priority to rearrange itself, i plugged in a usb back drive i have, the bios threw out my raid raptors completely; it had cd rom first, usb second and floppy third, the raid volume was completely dumped. why did this happen?

I had the same problem with my Rampage Formula. It turns out there is another section in the bios (not the boot oder) where you can set the HDD priority. I had the problem were I would leave a USB pluged in for ReadyBoost, and the RAID HDDs disapeared. So I went into the HDD priority and set the RAID as the first. That fixed it for me.

The only thing I can think of is maybe the battery is getting too low. Try a new battery.

BTW, I downloaded your manual and looked through the settings in section 3.7 BOOT MENU. It isnt the same as my Rampage Formula as it doesnt seem to have a seperate HDD priority menu. So it has to be the boot order itself that needs to be changed. With the USB drive installed, go into the bios and see if you can set the RAID as the first and the USB as the last. With my bios, It wouldnt even show the RAID with the USB installed until I changed the HDD priority, so this is the best advice I can give ATM. I'm at school, so I will check when I get home to see if I can be of more help.

Yep I had the exact same thing happen on my Maximus Formula. Very annoying until I figured it out.

My DFI Infinity would randomly do that. Funny thing is that there was no trigger for it, it would just randomly swap the harddrives. Vista flat refuses to boot unless it is the first harddrive in the boot order too...:\
