Since when were heatsinks supposed to be cold? They're sole purpose is to conduct heat away from the CPU.

watched a lot of these and when i read ur title it matched up into one glorious episode. And to those who say it was a waste at least u dont have to do the experiment to know what happens. I dunno if i was the only one compelled to microwave some pc parts at one time or another in my life but there u have it.

Eh... why are they torturing that perfectly good microwave? That looks like a major fire hazard, they shouldn't be doing that in a house.

Lol "there is sustained fire - This motherboard is now overclocked!"

Things I've microwaved (but didn't feel the drive to tape and post on you-tube):
Propane bottles - lame, metal blocks microwaves, if you have all day it might blow from heat alone
spray paint cans - lame, metal blocks microwaves, if you have all day it might blow from heat alone
Butane bottles - lame, metal blocks microwaves, if you have all day it might blow from heat alone
glow sticks - awesome, first 1 minute it glows like nuclear waste on cartoon, after that it "burns out"
Oxy-acetylene mixture in a Gatorade bottle with a little bit of steel wool - bye bye microwave blew the door right off and bulged out the metal liner
cell phones - fries microprocessors nicely, starts on fire after a while
incandescent light bulbs - awesome light show, eventually the plasma builds up too much pressure and bursts bulb, then the glass starts to burn, which is very cool to watch
neon tube bulbs - lights up like regular
cold cathode bulbs - lights up a little brighter than regular, then bursts after a while
old laptop display - sweet light show
old laptop sans display - same a cell phone
charred wood in an upside down fish bowl - straight up awesomeness, highly recommended, make sure wood is slightly on fire before starting microwave.

That said those kids are idiots IMO. I've been through like 20 microwaves either from them catching on fire or blowing up. I always solder in leads form the stock "start" button so I can remotely start the microwave from a safe distance. However I do support there approach at the scientific method if for nothing but "safety" - I don't recommend fooling around with a microwave unless you can take safe measures. They are a little too close to the microwave for anything that could explode (mobo has no potential lol). I always have my experiments conducted at least a hundred yards away in a giant field, with absolutely no one closer than me.

I think the "will it blend" guy has a way better series going!

But funny I must oddly admit
There's much more than lead in motherboards. The poor workers in China and Hong Kong who spend 16 hrs a day melting down CRT tubes and old motherboards have some of the highest cancer rates in the world. Those fumes are lethal.
