I'm going to try to update my BIOS as a last-ditch effort to restore my SATA ports. However, I remember reading a while back that updating the BIOS on my board can result in easy bricking. I don't have a floppy drive in my computer, and all the guides I can find for USB flashing link back to the ABIT forums, which don't seem to be working for me.

Hey, check out this guide that ABIT offers:
BIOS Upgrade Guide EDIT: Err...that uses a floppy. You could try using Winflash to update it, but I don't see any guides on ABIT's website.

I always mess up when burning data CDs... so how should I go about doing it... get the BIOS Zip, put all the files onto the disc, and burn as an iso... or should I save it as an iso then use the specific boot disc option in Nero Burning Rom?

Abit has a utility called FlashMenu. Unfortunately, since the company has dissolved, you'll need to harvest the latest EXE and BIOS file for your board from their FTP site.
ftp://ftp.uabit.com/pub/download/flashmenu/

Thanks,
