Default BIOS questions/advice.

Hi, I don't know much about the BIOS yet.

I'm wondering what the last 4 options in my BIOS do exactly. I assume the loadline calibration should be enabled.

Also, what should the south bridge voltage be set to? Or does it not matter.

I'm still screwing around with my voltage for my cpu but what about FSB Termination voltage. What does that change?

Also where would I find the 1t/2t setting that is in my CPUZ in my BIOS and last but not least. Theres 3 sets of timing for my ram? Do I only need to alter the first set?

Thanks. LOL.

EDIT: Also... is it safe to overvolt ram a bit? I tried changing the timing to 3/4/3/12 and it crapped out on me.. Got a fail on P95. Is there a certain procedure to follow for ram timing changes.

From my P5E thread:

Loadline Calibration: Available options are Auto, Disabled, and Enabled. Use enabled when OCing 65nm CPUs and Disabled when OCing 45nm CPUs. The 45nm CPUs can become unstable and even degrade if running LLC with the vcore near its max of 1.3625v. This function reduces Vcore voltage sag.

CPU GTL Reference: This setting is a derivative or ratio of the applied VTT voltage. A setting of 0.63x provides the most headroom for overclocking quad-core processors.

Northbridge GTL Reference: A value of .67x generally provides the best level of stability on this motherboard and is also helpful when overclocking quad cores.

The CPU and PCIE Spread Spectrum, when enabled, will adjust the frequency slightly to cut down on signal interference. It isn't really an issue with todays systems, and leaving them on can cause instability when OCing, so it is best to leave them disabled.

-----------------------------------------------------------

As for the ram, 2T is all you will be able to run. And the primary timings are the important ones. You can adjust the sub timings, but they will take some time. To be honest, your timings look fine were they are at.

I do recommend you adjust your Dram Static read control to disable, the Ai Clock twister to moderate, enable Transaction Booster (tRD) and set the performance level to 6 if you can, but if it wont boot, try 7, then 8 etc. until you get it stable. But the tRD will how a big impact on system performance when it comes to ram.

It's hard for me to grasp the computer lingo here though.

Disable the spectrum and load line and set the middle two to those numbers?

Since you are running a dual core, you will be fine just leaving them on auto.

But look at the previous post edit.

And another thing, you have a P45 chipset which runs a 400 FSB with 1.10v voltage, so 1.4v is really high! Set it to 1.26v and you will be fine. I bet someone with a P35 chipset recommended 1.4v. Remember the P45 is a die shrink, and therefore takes les voltage for the same speed, but the chipset is also more sensitive to voltage.

Also set your FSB termination voltage to 1.30v. Dont ever go up to 1.4v as it can kill your CPU.

Sorry for all the edits, I first was only looking at the last 4 settings, then I saw your ram settings, and then I looked at your voltages. So each time I kept editing the posts.

Well the max I change my cpu voltage to will be 1.3625 which is the max on intels site so I assume that's fine. So should the fsb termination be there?

My mobo specs say p43 but my cpu-z says p45 :S

So 1.26 should be good? I'll change it up It's been like this for awhile.. Hope I didn't fubar this.
