So I'm still ordering parts for the new PC I'm determined to build. I just want to know whether I can update the BIOS of my motherboard with a USB flash drive? Or do I need to do the whole thing with a floppy drive? I also heard updating bios through OS isn't recommended so I'm not gonna do it that way.
__________________I actually have no idea how the process goes since on my first build (which was an ASUS mobo) I ignored updating the BIOS altogether. This time I want to do everything right. Thanks

Here is how I flashed a P35 DS3L using a USB:
Start off by making the USB bootable. *Creating a Bootabe USB* Quote:
Then Donwload the bios to the bootable USB, then reboot and in the bios (with the USB inserted at boot), change the USB device to the primary boot device. Then reboot and the bios will automatically flash! Note: This is much safer then flashing in windows.

Thanks, Rep+. Been worrying about BIOS because I remember my first build I was paranoid about playing with the settings or flashing, so all I did was put my settings in didn't even bother to update and just started using the PC when I was done.

you don't need a bootable usb... just use Q-flash with a usb just hit F8 in the bios.

"Because BIOS flashing is potentially risky, if you do not encounter problems using the current version of BIOS, it is recommended that you not flash the BIOS. To flash the BIOS, do it with caution. Inadequate BIOS flashing may result in system malfunction."
__________________So this statement bothers me. Once I get my build all set up an ready to start, if I feel like there is nothing wrong with the BIOS I shouldn't flash/update it?

That is dangerous and I would not recommend it to anyone. There are numerous reports of bad flashes bricking the board with the windows utility.

The Qflash utility is super easy to use. You should definitely check out lsdmeasap's guide as it's very complete and straight forward. You don't need to make your usb drive bootable. I keep all the bios files for my board on the same drive as I keep all my portable apps, and i can load a bios off of it in literally a minute...
