can anyone pleas help me with some sort of step by step process for updating my asus p5k deluxe bios? i ask cause i used to have an asus p4p800-e deluxe, and i tried to update those bios and royally screwed up lol
i do not have a floppy if that helps. so im guessing ill need to use a usb brive? im asking this cause i actually have a 65nm E6850 processor right now, and i have the very rare opportunity to get a 45nm E8600 here in the next week or so for next to nothing really.....actually for a trade lol.. anyway i kinda have to update the bios to use this new processor and i really really dont want to f up my stuff, nor do i have the money to upgrade everything to an i7...(baby on the way) and this is my chance to make this build last some time longer

First and foremost, you should back down your overclock to stock speeds. If the bios update messes up, it will brick your motherboard.
__________________Secondly, go to this link http://support.asus.com/download/dow...Language=en-us and select your motherboard model, and the latest bios After that, there are two ways you could go about updating the bios. You could update it through the operating system, but I wouldn't recommend it as there is a bit of risk involved there. The second way would be updating it through the floppy drive. That's the safest way, even though the technology is pretty much ancient. If you choose to go the floppy drive route, i found a pretty good guide http://www.asus.com/999/html/events/mb/ezflash.htm. If you choose to update through the os, use the asus bios update utility http://support.asus.com/technicaldoc...nt.aspx?no=714 For either method, you have to unzip the bios file and put it either on a floppy or somewhere where you can find it. It would be safest to run this at stock speeds with nothing else running, but again, it is definately not as safe as updating through the floppy drive.

Tr1ggr provided some good guides. I personally wouldn't update the bios through the OS. I have always done it through floppy/thumb drive and it has went through without any issues.

the same still applies to thumdrive as the floppy. and you just need to take the 1 big jump instead of going at it step by step

Put the BIOS file in a usb stick drive. Reboot system and go to BIOS and then go to ASUS EZ Flash . A blue screen comes up, choose your stick and BIOS file and do it.
I have updated ASUS bioses like 40 times at least in my life. Did a lot with my A7N8X Best way is through the BIOS , I believe ATL F4 brings up the EZ flash utility, if not just hit delete go to BIOS and go to ez flash, safest way. Do not do it thru DOS or thru windows. Do it this way and your safe my friend.
