Hi..I have A Pre-Built PC Straight From the Mall..LOL..When I first Heard About Overclocking I was So happy But When I Went Into My Bios i Had no Settings to Change For My CPU..At First I thought It Was me..But Then Heard That most Pre-Built PCs BIOSES are locked..For Example i dont Have any option to change my Voltage,FSB, Etc..So I was Hoping to Know if Anyone Here Could Direct Me To software Or Anything I could use To unlock These Settings..BECAUSE 2ghz sucks!

Attached I have A Picture Of CPU-Z With Every Tab (Because like i said before i didn't build my PC) of Pretty Much everthing Someone would need To know TO Overclock a PC..Also I have Some Pics OF my Bios..Sorry There Not That Great.

SO if Anyone Could Help Me Would be MUCH APPRECIATED!!!!!!

If you're able to unlock the bios, then you also need to disable those features that I said to disable.

Basically, disable everything in that center pic except for Execute Disable Bit.

After that, there may be a keyboard thing you can do in order to unlock the BIOS. It might be something like F1, or Ctrl+F1, or something. If not, then there's nothing you can do outside of using software to overclock your system. But, that wouldn't be worth it because you probably wouldn't get a big enough overclock to make any difference anyway. All that would happen is it would create more heat and possibly make benchmark numbers higher. But as for real-world performance, you wouldn't feel it very much if you used software to overclock instead of the BIOS.

So, if you find out that it's definitely not able to be unlocked (you could call the manufacturer), then I say that it's best to just give up and re-enable those features in the bios and just leave it. After all, pre-built systems are not designed to be overclocked. They're designed to be purchased, and then left as they are.

I did That But Unfortunaltely My PC wouldnt BOOT UP after i Disabled CPU l1 & L2 Cache

Your only real options are:
1: Return the computer
2: Buy a new CPU
3: Buy a new motherboard and copy of Windows (since your copy is OEM and legally tied to that motherboard it has been installed on) and replace what you currently have.
4: See if you can find a generic BIOS and flash your current board with it (very risky)
5:Software overclock (but as said, not advised for many reasons, instability, heat, minimal if any real gain)
6: Be happy with what you have


I would go with # 1 if at all possible.

But I never actually said to disable that one. But you're right that I should have stated this time around that you need to leave it enabled, so I do apologize for that. In that list, the only things you need to leave Enabled are the Cache and Execute Disable Bit.

But, considering that it's 4 years old, then there is absolutely no way to overclock it. I also thought you were saying that you just recently bought it at the Mall.

So, just save up and build your own asking Overclock.net to help you do it. I guarantee you that you will be far happier with a computer you built yourself. Not only that, but you could do the following and end up spending less money:

You could:

1. Go find a pre-built at like Best Buy or something.
2. Write down all of its specs (and I mean all of them, right down to the power supply's wattage)
3. Build a computer of your own that has the same specs (buy each part separately, making sure to get quality brand name parts using the help of the experts here at OCN)
4. Then overclock it.

And then after doing all of this, you'd essentially have the same system you saw at Best Buy, but part-for-part, it would be superior and higher quality, it would be overclockable, and finally and almost most importantly: you'd have spent a little less money than you otherwise would have if you bought the pre-built at like Best Buy. Either that, or you would have spent the same amount of money, but either way, you still would end up with a much better system that you can also overclock. I mean, the case would be better, the motherboard would be better, the cpu cooling would be better, the memory would be better, the graphics card would be better, you'd have an actual sound card instead of crappy onboard sound, you'd most certainly have a better power supply, you'd have better HDD's, better Optical drives, and last but not least: you'd have much more love for it because you created it. I compare this love to the love parents have for their own child. Owning a pre-built is like watching a neighbor's child for a while. But owning a system that you built is like taking care of your own child that you created, so to speak.

So, now I guess it's up to you. I mean, building a computer is honestly not for everyone who loves computers. But, if you really enjoy replacing hardware in your computer (or just taking it out and putting it back in for that matter), then you will REALLY love building one from the ground up. Some guys even make their own cases from scratch! Some go to such extremes that they have really unique cases: one guy's case looks exactly like Optimus Prime, and it even transforms. But that's not for me. I'd rather just have a pre-built and empty case that I can use to build my system into. And for me, that ended up being the CM 690 which I really love.

So, what do you think you want to do? Do you want to stick with pre-builts, or are you up to the really fun and exciting challenges of building your own computer? I won't lie to you: I feel unconditional love for my system. But I didn't feel that with my pre-builts. I couldn't. There was no connection because they were somebody else's creation. But with building your own, you know it inside and out. After all, you picked all the parts and you put them all together.

There is not really much you could do here. Maybe there is a BSEL mod out there for that chip but i dont know. There are a bunch of threads out there for BSEL modding a q6600 or E8500 and some other popular chips but Im not sure about your particular chip. Its not exactly recomended as you could really screw something up if your not experienced but hey, its worth a try. Other than that, you may be able to sqeeze 100mhz out of SetFSB. Its a software overclocking utility but its not very stable after a certain point.

Thanks Guys...For the info...Would it work to start a thread about all the parts i would need with pictures,prices info from members of OCN (what they recommend) and help on how to install this and make sure it all fits?

On the contrary to what everyone above said , yes there are ways of unlocking any hidden bios options which may be hidden from you in your current bios. Any pc you dont build yourself genrealyl has these options locked out so the manufacturer doesnt have to solve any problems from people who have messed about with them

Please give your motherboard make and model , i will get you the latest bios and unlock any options that i can
