I have a Asus P5Q motherboard, and I'm trying to oc my E6420. I only got a set of DDR2-800 memory, and I think I've hit a FBS hole at 400x8. I will have to oc my memory or set it on different dividers if I want to go beyond 400x8, but I can't manage to find any dividers (there isn't really a divider setting, just a list of memory frequecies available depending on what you set the FBS to) that set the memory frequency lower than the FBS. Is this how the P5Q BIOS is, or will a BIOS update solve my problem?

There is an option for this on that mobo (I have it as well) and I think it's on another page from the one that you are looking at. If I remember right, it's on the same page as the multi option. I know that you can change it on the page that you are on, but there is another one. I'm on this computer right now and i'm uploading files so I can not reboot to find it for you, otherwise I would. Hope this helps.

That's what essentially sets the divider. Just drop it down by one if you want to run the memory at a lower speed and keep yanking up the FSB.
When I dropped from 240 to 200 MHz, my memory, stated to be DDR2-800 on that list, became DDR2-667. I just nudged it one slot back up to DDR2-800 and all was well.

So you want more then DDR2-800? The only option after that i think is DDR2-1000 4:5 which u set it 333Mhz i think.

Intel chipsets do not have FSB holes, that is exclusive to NVIDIA chipsets. You need to set the Transaction Booster to 10, then set the Chipset strap to auto and run the ram at the slowest speed (1:1). Then push the FSB and OC the CPU.

Thanks, thats really helpful. So your saying if my CPU is capable of beyond 400x8, I should have no problems running it at that clock, it's just the matter of other settings?

The lowest ram divider for the Intel chipset is 1:1, which means whatever you set the FSB to, the ram will run that MHz speed. The DDR2 rating is the actual MHz speed x 2. So 400FSB means the ram will run 400MHz x 2 = DDR2 800. Just run CPU-Z and click on the memory tab. You will see the actual memory speed (not the DDR2 rating).

EDIT: Also, what do I set the CPU Margin Enhancement to? Does it matter?
