You need to know your volts and your timings. It will be in your bios.
But please take a min and fill your specs in that would help alot. Go to quick links at the top of this page and then go to system edit and fill them in to the best of your knowledge.

Okay i removed the RAM and the problem continues. The CPU seems to be running very hot, could that be an error? And if it isn't would that make the computer not want to shut down and then reboot and come up with this overclocking error?

So no new RAM and no new HDD and the problem continues. Judging by the first bost I would guess it is you BIOS causing the issue. You might need to update your BIOS, but first I would try completely unplugging your computer and them pulling the battery for the CMOS and waiting a minute or two just to make sure something wasn't keeping the BIOS charged. CPU running hot can cause issues, but this does not sound like one of them.

Is your RAM set to the right timings and voltage? Sometimes you have to do this manually depending on the RAM.

EDIT:Nevermind.

The above post just made me think of something. What if the original RAM was set manually before he installed the new ones. Then the new ones didn't like the manual setting of the old ones and caused issues, so the CMOS gets reset and now it is back to auto and the old ones no longer work? Chances are probably one in a million but how messed up would that be?

BTW, if for some reason the BIOS update doesn't work then try reseating everything you may have bumped. Though I doubt that is the issue since your BIOS is going on about IDE, Raid, and overclocking.

I found some newer bios for the MB. I'm not real sure how to apply them though. I did some reading on this and it appears rather involved. Is there an easier way to update bios other than making a bootable disk, etc...?

I used a usb stick but thats for a gigabyte. go to Asus and they will tell you how to do it. Probably need to save it to something (usb) and go to bios and change your boot sequence from hdd to usb and the when your done switch it back.
