Default Am I Being A Wuss??

Hi all,
My mobo is getting a little flakey and the double-post is getting on my and my hard-drives nerves.
Furthermore the FSB is reset everytime I turn the power off and there are numerous bugs.
I think I need to flash the BIOS.
The trouble is I cannot afford for my mobo to be bricked - both financially and time-wise. I know its unlikely the flash will fail but it does happen.
I was thinking of spending $12 on a replacement BIOS chip loaded with the latest BIOS. This seems less likely to metaphorically explode in my face.

Also lately I have had a couple of CMOS checksum errors on boot, I have never flashed the BIOS on this mobo.

hmm, it's never gone wrong for me but you never know. I certainly remember nearly crapping myself when I thought it had gone wrong with my £2500 laptop.
If you're really not confident, then I'd just spend the $12. Make sure you've ruled out any other causes of the problem first - you don't want your $12 to be wasted.

flashing the BIOS wont get rid of double post, that is a design fault in the chipset almost if not all P35s do it.

That mobo is rather easy to flash! It takes about 2 minutes max to flash bios man. But I do understand where you are coming from. How long have you had your mobo and how long have you had this issue?

If you can get a new BIOS chip thats the way I would go. I have bricked a board or two in my day.

As for the double POST my P35-DS3L has never done that before....

Double-check the CMOS battery. It may be getting low on voltage. And as far as the double-boot goes, mine went away with a BIOS flash (sig mobo) about 7 months ago. I am sure the most recent BIOS from abit will fix it for you as well. Plus, you will have better 45nm support, if you choose to upgrade down the road.

And no, you are not being a wuss.

I have troubleshooted everything. It may just be the board coughing and spluttering before dyeing a bronchial death.

It is P35 issue, but Abit fixed it with a BIOS update (13)

I've had it since December 07, lol.
And issue was there from new.

True. I have replaced the battery. Its a known Abit fault. But its only started doing it lately.

Thanks for the replies
