Default Updating bios through windows?

I heard its bad to do that. Is it? Will it fry anything or cause a malfunction. I use the @bios from Gigabyte

The main reason why it's bad is the same reason why it's bad to overclock using Windows software: it's just not as reliable or as certain as doing it straight from the BIOS.

If you have a CD or DVD burner, then use that. Or use a flash drive. You may even be able to use a spare HDD the same way you'd use a CD-R, floppy or flash drive. Either way, if you can flash it without using Windows, then go for it.

However, you might be able to flash it from Windows. My only fear is that it won't work and then it could brick your motherboard.

I've done it 6 or 7 times in Windows.

Just pray your comp doesn't crash during the 60 seconds when it is being flashed.

I don't trust Windows enough not to crash during the update.

Asus' EZ Flash utility and a usb stick/floppy ftw.

With gigabyte boards, it's REALLY easy to flash the BIOS through the BIOS.

Just press end when you post and that should bring up EZflash (something like that) and all you need is your new BIOS File on a flash drive or a cd-r and it's pretty straight forward. BTW, it will read your USB drive as "USB HDD" or something similar.

That's kinda what I was thinking. I mean, I don't see how it would make any difference.
