A battery doesn't hold information. Are you referring to the CMOS chip?

I asked my question because once you drain the capacitors, I don't yet see the reason why it should remain off much longer than the time it takes to put the battery back in and get back to work on the computer. I mean, what does leaving it sit for 30 minutes do once you've drained the capacitors?

And please: do not answer me as though I'm some kind of idiot. lol

I've had to leave it over night before. I dont know why removing power and bleeding resicual doesnt work instantly. I dont know if there is still enough residual power in the board to prevent total bios clear. But I rmember fighting with this when running a DFI NF4 motherboard. I would try an hour, then 3 hours, and finally over night. And only then did it CLR the bios.

I wonder if that's similar to the way it takes a while for an EMP to clear, or just regular static like on a balloon.

Well there are capacitors on the boards, and they can hold power for a while. I cant say for certain, but I'm pretty sure there are some components on the board that will hold power for a while, and you might have to wait until they are fully discharged.

I have a limited knowledge of electical circuitry from my EOD background, but I do know of some capacitors that will hold a charge for 6 months (in some munitions). Even things like a flash from a disposable camera can store enough voltage in a capacitor that it will hold the full charge for quite a while.

Still a no-go on the BIOS clear. I may just give up on it for the night. I put my 90nm P4 in it just in case my 45nm E5200 isnt supported. I will try again in a few hours.

ericeod seems to have given you the solution to try. Based on his experience, it sounds like you may have to wait a while for all the electrical stuff to clear.

I'm 95% sure that it's the 45nm chip. I ran my Q6600 in this board until the day I shipped it to you without any problems, but of course it's 65nm. Let me do some digging and see if this board supports 45nm.

keep us updated is you have any luck

The CPU support list says that the E5200 is not supported with this motherboard.

Aw, it was nothing. I use Firefox, so I just highlighted "Gigabyte N650SLI-DS4", then right-clicked and chose this: Search Google for "Gigabyte N650SLI-DS4", and the Gigabyte product page for this motherboard was the first result.
