Default need help overclocking

Hey you guys. Im pretty new at overclocking. I know what im supposed to do, and ive done a good job of boosting my cpu a wee bit, from 2.6 to 2.8.

BUT, i was using nvidia CP and whenever i try and move the sldier mroe tot he right so its higher, and press apply, my comp freezes, and nothing gets applied. And im back where i started.

I dont no how to work bios

So could somebody please give me a step by step of how to get my Q9450 to 3.0 ghz and beyond.

hey
get into your BIOS
find your OC values
unlink the FSB from RAM Ration
or set it to the lowest ratio possible

bump up the FSB about 25 every time,
go into windows and do a 20minutes stresstest with intelburntest or Prime95
then keep pushing it up
see how far you can get until it gets unstable and crashes the stresstest

BUT BEFORE YUO OC<GET A NEW HEATSINK, YOU WILL KILL YOUR CPU LIKE THIS IF YOU DONT HAVE A BETTER HEATSINK
