Default How safe is this? Bios Password help

Hi guise. So I got a laptop off a mate a few days ago, his windows install is corrupted so he wants a fresh install which would normally be np, but when he first got his laptop he chucked a password on the bios and now as usual hes forgotten it. Googeling around the most common thing to do next to removing the batter (tried this, didn't work) was to flash the bios to the latest release. Is this safe to do? I've flashed bioses before, but never any passworded ones.

System: Oh Hai =)

Removing the battery should be all you need to do...
Remove it and let it sit for a while, sometimes the bios takes time to reset.
