Two reasons.

1. It's not an extra few bucks it wouldve been $120 more.
2. Not really a performance gain from what I've seen.

You will have some fun with the E6400, that extra multi will allow a few more options plus they run cool. GL

Yeah I got the 6400 because of the 8 multi. The 6300's look like they do very well too but I just wanted to make sure I wouldnt be stuck at an FSB wall. I'm still looking for how much power the 6400 uses and how much heat is given off compared to my 660. I cant seem to find it.

Hey mikey..look what I was running. A san diego that ate up about 100 watts of power, overclocked, an x1900xt, a 120gb hard drive..all kinds of stuff on a 550w sunbeam nuuo, with 18a on the 12v rails. Doesn't hiccup at all- he's fine

EDIT: bigval the conroes use about 64 or 70 watts of power...yeah

at least I think it is.

I just read that the allendale's do not have the cache disabled on the core from failed Conroe chips. They actually have a smaller die which means less heat and a better overclock than the Conroe cores, usually. Nice!

I found that with stock cooling the E6300 could get to 2.9/3.0 'stable' at minimal vCore... the E6400 are similarly thermally rated so with your cooling it should be no issue. With reagrds to the PSU, look at what each if the Rails supply, that is MB, +12V 4/8-Pin, GPU, molex... then see what you have actually loaded across these.. from there it will be possible to make some assumptions if one rail is likely to be hit harder. While the rails are rated at 22A the total load across these is around 32A, so this is the balancing act..

Like ncsa has mentioned, it may say 22A for each +12V rail but the total is only 32A. 22A is the peak of what the rail can supply, but both rails cannot supply 22A at the same time. If the load across each rail is split 50/50 thats only 16A on each rail.
