Default A guy dunno wut he's doing's build.

Finally, after months of reading/surfing/learning (still learning) I have all my parts and will build it in a couple days, 1/1/07 (new years build).

I haven't built a computer for a few years so bare with me and help me out.
btw, I've gone from a thunderbird 1.3 to an athlon xp (lasted a little over 3 months) to a centrino 1.3 ghz laptop. The desktop is dead thus why I am building this new computer.

Here are my equipment:

cpu: e6300
mobo: p5b deluxe wifi
ram: g.skill 800mhz (non-hz version as I don't plan on going far past 400fsb)
hdd: 2x seagate 250gb 7200.10's (planning to raid0)
videocard: evga 7600gt
sound: soundblaster audigy2 platinum
case: thermaltake armor w/250mm fan
cpu fan: big typhoon
fan controller: sunbeam rheobus
psu: sunbeam nuuo 550w
dvd: plextor 716 dvd burner
mouse+keyboard: microsoft wireless pro series
artic silver5
3.5" floppy in case of need of drivers
xfx usb gamepad
speakers: klipsch ultra 5.1
1 pack of cheap tools (new from blackfriday) to work on the computer, lol.

anyways, my goal is to hit 2.8 stable and hopefully this build will last me a couple of years.

I have downloaded a few items, but I keep feeling I probably still need to download more. So far I got:

p5bdeluxe 711 bios
driver for the lan on the mobo
intel storage matrix manager (not sure if I need it)
jmicron raid drivers
f6 floppy driver for raid
asus update 7.09

I know I still need drivers for my sound, video, and dvd. Today and tomorrow are just preparation for the build. That's why I'm posting this early.

thnx in advance

Is this build going to be windows XP ?

If so, XP will provide you with many generic drivers, you can download the right ones after the system is up and running. No problem!

Yes, it will be running with xp, probably home, I don't see professional giving me a huge advantage. Currently I'm most worried about after putting the whole thing together, the order of the things I should do.

I was thinking do all stock settings in bios first except for sata/raid. Then I'm assuming I use the f6 floppy disk to install raid? Then windows should automatically format the 2 250's into 1 hdd then I install windows. Then afterwards I flash the bios, and install all the drivers. After everything is settled I'll start overclocking.

languy99: I read your log a couple days ago, I don't plan on going that far because I am afraid of my killing my equipment pre-maturely. I just hope I set up everything right, this will be the first time I build a computer from start to finish.

well this is my first time overclocking a computer and this thing clocks so good that i'm in heaven. and i really don't think anything will die any faster because everything that has to have a heatsink does and the temps are basically stock. voltage was not increased enough to cause any problems really. not even .1 volts, i went from 1.325 to 1.375 thats what .050 volts.

Looking at my build over, I've came up with a couple questions:
my 550w nuuo is a modular and I'm a little confused about which one is the +12v1 and which one is the +12v2 as the 2nd one has less amps and I don't think I'd be using that. (the 12v is for the videocard or the mobo?)

Also on the mobo there's a 12 pin connector for power and a 4pin, the 4pin has another set of 4 pins covered, should I connect that part as well?

the big typhoon has 3 pins while my mobo has 4, one of the 4 pins is the ground, do I connect the ground one and skip the pin on the other side or do I connect the other 3 pins and skip the ground? (proof of a guy with my electronics logic)

Happy New years to all, I just woke up, and am now starting my build, woohoo, no one answered those last minute questions for me so I guess I'll just have to find out, hope I don't fry anything.
