Default C2D Build Problems

So I've been having some problems with my system (in sig). If anyone could help me debug what's wrong I'd be really grateful.

History of the build:
Part 1) Put everything together using stock heatsink and a 7950GT. Got everything working, OC'ed to 3.0Ghz. Works for several months.

Part 2) Get a Tuniq Tower and a 8800GTS for xmas (though I paid half...). After a bunch of trouble I finally get it working. However, I find out I mounted the fan the wrong way, towards the video card. So I decide to remount it...

Part 3) Remount the TT, this time facing the right way. Plug everything in and it doesn't work. The CPU fan and system fans turn on, however there is no POST. No video display, no beeps. The GPU fan is spinning at 100%, which made me think that it was maybe the video cards fault, but replacing the video card with one I am 100% sure is working did not solve the problem.

I've remounted several times now and I get the same result every time except once, where it managed to post correctly. I get overexcited, plug my other devices back in, then back to the same no POST.

Currently plugged into the mobo: CPU with TT, 12v ATX, 24 pin ATX, CPU fan, System Fan, front panel (LEDs, PC Speaker, power switch etc), RAM (works), and video card with PCI power (works).

Anyone know what this means? I don't have a separate mobo or CPU to check which is the problem. Any help greatly appreciated!

Reset your CMOS, and if that doesn't work, flash a fresh BIOS. If it isn't even POSTing, your RAM may be an issue as well.

I had this same problem with my Tuniq and the DS3.. the problem was that the back plate was shorting some of the pins on the back of the motherboard, so all the places where the backplate contacts with the board, I put sellotape on the board, covering the pins.

Fixed the problem perfectly.

I have reset the CMOS (that one time it did POST it confirmed that the CMOS was reset). I've been resetting it every time I've reseated.

I haven't touched the RAM (left it in Mobo) and the build was working perfectly before I reseated. This is what leads me to believe the RAM is fine.

Ooooh that definately sounds like it could be the case. Because I actually had this problem the first time I put on the Tuniq, but it just started working (randomly for all I could tell).

Unforunately, I've never heard of Sellotape before now so I doubt we have any in the house. Is there a common household alternative I could use to keep the plate from shorting out the mobo?

remove the video card and see if it gives beeping noises, it should give a steady beeep-beeep-beeep, if i remember correctly. Try removing and reseating your ram too, might of been bumped or something when remounting your heatsink?

Sounds like a short to me. Adam probably is onto something.

Also, these are usually issues that are not resolved by a BIOS flash. Also, these symptoms do not indicate bad RAM (RAM usually causes beep codes when there are issues). Generally, these symptoms indicata a short (most common), a mobo gone south, a PSU that decided to enjoy a better life, or a incompatible or defective CPU.

Alternatively, can I pick up sellotape at a local hardware/radio shack/auto store? This sounds like the best lead so far.

Well it appears sellotape is a UK thing. I'll try putting packing tape (sticky side on the backplate) and see how it works. I'll post when I've put it all back together.

-EDIT-
So...the backplate does not want to come off. It's really stuck. I'm trying to rock it back and forth to make it loose but it barely wants to budge...

Alright, so I managed to get the backplate off. Put some tape on the backplate over where the pins would go. Same thing. No POST. So I took the backplate completely out and tried it (with the TT perched a little precariously). Same thing, still no POST. So it's not the backplate

I have the right spacers in the case, no extras...

Any more ideas?

Did you try outside the case, with the mobo on a flat, antistatic surface? If not, try that with minimal components (CPU, singe stick of RAM, and video card... nothing else).

Well it does sound like a shorting problem from somewhere.

I went to desperate measures and put the black foam that comes with my mobo into the back of my case and put my mobo on top of that. Along with the sellotape (commonly know as sticky tape or whatever ), I managed to boot properly..

Apart from one time, where my rig kept turning on, then off, then on, then off etc.. I found out that my RAM wasn't seated properly.

But definitely try running your rig outside the case - I did.
