Default v2's Core 2 Duo Build Log

So I saved up my money for a year and a half to get a decent system. (My current 2.93ghz celeron and mobo cost me $50... and has some serious issues.)

Day 1: Parts and $0 case arrived
Parts came today. Specs:
Core 2 Duo e6600 with a Freezer Pro 7 heatsink
P5B Deluxe
FSP 450W power supply
Sapphire x1950pro
Patriot 1gb DDR2 800
WD 250gb SATA (II?)

Mobo Box. Came with a lot more stuff than is shown, including the motherboard.

This box was annoying to open.

Freezer Pro 7 heatsink, currently facing the wrong way. (But it wasn't mounted on the board yet anyway. Just a test fit.)

Graphics card box came with a bunch of goodies.

Needs some wire management. A larger case will be arriving soon. That should help. Very tightly fit.

Boots. I forgot I had linux on my SATA hard drive, so I was surprised when it booted in Xubuntu.
Picture shows my computer workstation. Closest computer is the e6600 rig, with the drive face plate taken off.

------------

Day 2: Windows 2000 & Drivers
After Windows 2000 "finished installing," it wouldn't boot. I can only speculate this might have been the reason. I reinstalled with an 80gb partition, and it worked fine.

There's something wrong with this picture. (Hint: My hard drive has a capacity of 250gb.)

ATI drivers didn't work. I've tried the regular ATI drivers, WarCat, and Omega drivers. They all freeze. So now I'm stuck with a Windows 2000 install, with a screen res of 640 x 480 x 16.
(I think the problem rested within the installer script, as I remember having this problem before on another computer.)

I don't like to spend $80+ for windows xp when I can get it for $40 if I wait a few days.
I did buy a few other things in that year and a half, like a PSP and the gfx card currently in my celeron computer, and a few other things. Because a year and a half ago, I wasn't sure what I wanted in terms of a new computer, just something more powerful than what I had.

Lol. Sorry, it doesn't have "headlights." And, that computer is using some Biostar board with a 1.7ghz celeron. I have a lot of computers.

I can't update the log today with pictures and stuff. But basically, I installed Windows XP, got all the drivers to work, and ran 3dmark05, which gave me a score over 10,000.

... 1-1/2 years of saving...

Dood, I am impressed! You have certainly earned your upgrade.

Looking good, and enjoy! BTW, nice workshop you have there: parts bins, pegboard tool storage and a workbench!
