SHIPMENT ARRIVED!

E4300 was in stock starting yesterday Jan 19th, they were out of typhoons so i just picked scythe ninja. I'll add a another 120mm fan on it later so it cools even better than typhoon! Also I changed the ram since the all mighty forum director told me special ops is crap. The Team one i chose uses Promos ICs (not D9s) but considering its timings, it is still reasonably good ram for e4300. I am going for 100%+ oc on this one lol
anyone who ordered from Direct Canada know how long it takes for it to go from BC to Toronto via ground?
Pictures and benchmarks will be up as soon i get it (ETA before the end of the month)

hmmm 11$ cheaper than an e6300... that makes it very tricky to choose

Did you buy EVERYTHING from directcanada? If not, what parts did you get from a local store and which one?

e4300 huh? Odd that it has a higher multi than my 6400....

Looks like a great build!

I'm thinking of getting almost the exact same build! Tell me how it turns out!

Default Info

I read in another thread one guy experienced a very troubling issue with his E4300. He had the biostar 965p motherboard and 667 memory. The biostar would not let him run his memory at 1:1 with the E4300 installed, this severely limiting his overclock potential. I have had that issue myself on the DS3 with a pentium D installed (both 800mhz fsb). So if that is going to be an issue with the E4300 cpu, it loses a lot of the attraction. Afterall, the biggest draw was being able to use cheaper/lower speed memory to overclock it. But if you can't do that, there is really no advantage to using the E4300.

So I guess we need people to report on that issue as they discover it/or not. It might be wise to hold off buying them until we see some feedback on that.

jph1589, can you provide a link to that discussion? I'd like to read on that before I jump on the E4300 wagon.

um...??
http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets...spx?i=2903&p=2
this review used a ds3 with ddr2-800 ram
Quote:
We wanted to showcase the performance potential of the E4300 without resorting to more expensive 1066MHz or faster memory and thus we used a 2:1 memory-to-FSB ratio at stock speeds (DDR2-800) and 1:1 ratio for overclocking, resulting in our memory running at DDR2-750. With more expensive memory the overclocked E4300 would perform even better but our focus was on best bang for your buck with the chip and how well it can overclock. As you will soon see, you don't need anything faster than DDR2-800 memory to make the E4300 a very compelling chip.
that's an 87.5% OC on STOCK cooling. although it is an engineering sample

I think it is either bios of biostar tforce 965pt problem or the ram is not supported

right now this looks like youll need the best ram you can get to get the most out of this thing
That is what i saw in the discussion this morning. They were talking about his biostar and E4300. If you read on, it seems he switched boards and had better luck. So there are some motherboards that you can use it with. But the P5B-D costs $200 bucks. So that still reduces the attractiveness of the E4300.

To recap, it seems like so far that either you get a cheap motherboard and high end memory. Or you get a high end motherboard and lower speed memory. Either way, the E4300 isn't a deal anymore with those variables added in.

I'm starting to lean more into getting the E6300 instead now..
