After years of AMD patronage Im making the switch back to Intel and their superior C2D line of chips.
This is not a complete rebuild as many existing parts will be used in the new PC. New: C2D e6300 Gigabyte DS3 Mushkin EM PC2-6400 2GB OCZ GameXStream 600W BFG GeForce 7900 GS OC Scythe Infinity 5 Existing: Lian-Li P60 Case 2x Maxtor 150GB 7200 (Will be RAID-0) LG GSA-4040B DVD Writer (old but works) I plan on lapping the Scythe and the e6300, and will try to take as many photos as I can. Update: Ive got a few more items to add to the build list. ZALMAN ZM-MFC1 6 FAN SPEED CONTROLLER Arctic Silver 5 3.5g Arctic Silver ArctiClean Silverstone 120MM FM121 x2 (push/push Infinity Mod) This makes 3 separate orders coming in next week. Its going to be a busy week! Update 2: Jan 15 I decided to get a head start on moving my old system into my mediabox last night. Once I get home I'll post some photos of the move. I ran into one snag after getting everything setup. It turns out that my Radeon 9700 Pro had a dead fan and the heatsink was bonded to the GPU. After removing the fan and some gentle prying the old heat sink popped off and left a hardened mess of thermal paste. Now I have to find an after market cooler for this oldie but goodie. Any suggestions? On a positive note I did not lose my RAID 0 setup when switching my 2 320 Seagate's. I did not use the Epox on board raid. I kept my PCI Promise 2300 card to control the 2 drives. It did a good job in my old TBird 900 and should be fine in the XP2200. I also was able to punch a hole through my mediabox case to control the Thermaltake cpu fan and mounted an extra 80mm fan to the back of the mediabox. I just used an old fan from a PSU for now. Ill look to upgrade in the future, but for now its under volted to 7V and doing well. I also got confirmation that all 3 orders have shipped and I should get them over the next couple of days. :-)

Here are a few of the shots I look last night. The entire set can be viewed here. Video Card got a lil toasty: ![]() The chip has a lil residue on it: ![]() Boring out the cpu fan controller hole. so i can keep all the nice photos at the top. makes for a more enjoyable read.
To be honest I was going to go AMD when I stared looking at new hardware, but the price/performance quickly lead me to an Intel rig. I also would have like to have waited until the spring as well but my current box just isnt able to what I want anymore. I purchased the main parts of my current rig (XP1800 + ATI 9700 Pro) was built to play the games of the day and has done a good job of keeping up. It was Neverwinter Nights 1 that lead to that build and now after getting NWN2 in November and struggling with slow load times and choppy framerates spend the build of my new rig, "Robinson".
