I know I keep talking about building a new box, but this is the year. I am liking Vista, but I could use a little more power. I have been super impressed at how well my laptop performs (T5600 C2D) so i want to go in that direction. I have no real knowledge about DDR2 or the best C2D motherboards (leaning toward Asus, but the BadAxe looks good too). I would like the top of line performance at stock settings. I may tinker with overclocking later, but lots of speed stock is a must.

Processor: E6600/E6700. I'd wait for the price cut when the price of the E6600 falls by about $100.
HSF: At this moment, the one and only Tuniq Tower 120, if you can find it in stock. Motherboard: Asus P5B Deluxe or Gigabyte 965P DS3 are usually the main "combatants" Hard Drive: Seagate 7200.10 series, or a raptor if you're l33t Memory: Cellshock PC6400, G.Skill HZ series, Team Xtreem 6400.. any of those have D9s and will be awesome when you start to overclock. Video: Not sure if an 8800GTX will fit the budget, so a GTS should do perfectly fine for now ![]() PSU: Something with high power - Either a 700w GameXStream or similar, or a 750w PC Power & Cooling That's what I'd go for anyway, unless you want to wait for R600 ![]() Edit: Sorry I don't have links, I'm on dialup and Newegg takes about 2 minutes to load each page.. would take me about an hour to get links for all these.

No worries about the links. Here is what I have so far. I am little over-budget initially, but mail-in rebates would put me back under.

I realize that the timings are tighter, but aren't the D9 chips much better?

BFRD, your build looks good - I would stick with the HZs because they are definitely D9 chips.
You could save a few bucks going for a normal raptor rather than the X version. All you get is a window, which means they're louder. Are you even going to see into the drive while it's in the case?

The P5B Dlx takes a serious backseat to the Abit AB9 QuadGT. I would definitely recommend that if you want to go quad core in the future. Even though the GameXStream has more Watts, the PC Power and Cooling 75 Watt is more powerful, reliable, and cheaper. PC Power and Cooling 750 Silencer FTW. Last note is on the memory. Look for D9GKX (in Cell Shocks). It is worthwhile! Here are my build recommendations: Intel E6600 $315.50 (Free Shipping - $1.99 2nd Day Air) Tuniq Tower $59.99 Abit AB9 QuadGT $187.46 / Intel D975XBX2 $199 2GB Cell Shock DDR2-1000 GKX $369.99 (additional Cell Shock to be in stock soon) XFX 8800GTX $519.99 (After Rebate / Free Shipping - $1.99 2nd Day Air) 2x Western Digital Raptor 74GB 10k RPM 16MB RAID0 279.98 Total (after rebate - Free Shipping) PC Power and Cooling Silencer 750 $199 (Black Out of Stock - Will be in this week) Total: 1931.91
