well today i stopped by the auto parts store and picked up some sandpaper .. sadly the finest i could get upto is 2000 grit so that will have to be enough.. i might take pics of before and after but the last time i did they didnt come out to well.. to much glare off the cpu for a clean pic and not enough of a lighted area to do so with out the flash .. anyway.. during this time i will also be cleaning the evaphead of the phase unit i hope between doing all of this and reapplying the artic properly this will resolve the issues im having with the sever flux in temps from -51 idel to +10-+15 under load

well i found out that my package was only upto 1000 grin all well no biggie.. i finished lapping my cpu it didnt come out to bad.. i also reinstalled the artic stuff and remounted the phase system.. i noticed right away that my temps were reading close to -60c idle right now im at stock everything and running orthos and it has yet to raise higher then -40c .. i think this is a good sign.. i noticed when i pulled the system apart it indeed was covered with the artic stuff.. i think i put way way to much .. i also cleaned the evap head as well.. so who knows it could of been a combo of several differnt things.. anyway im gonna clock it back up and check the temps i did take pics but they came out crappy as well i will go through them and post up the descent ones..

running 3.42 at 1.55v with temps at max load around -10c to -5c I'm not sure how much farther i will be able to get this booting at 3.51-3.6 i can get into windows but i fail orthos with in minutes or even seconds .. with my temps already climbing close to -3 to 0 .. I'm not sure if i want to risk putting any more voltage i think i might consider saving up a little bit and having my phase unit tricked out but to be honest with the set up i have i think 3.4 is a descent overclock considering the budget if this test proves to be stable ill see if i cant tweak the ram timings a little..right now they are 5-5-5-18 with 2.3v .. of course I'm not wondering if vista is whats making it harder to reach a stable oc .. i might load up xp and see if i can find a stable setup a little higher..or maybe not .. anyway i was thinking about water cooling the north bridge not sure if ill need to since the vcore seems to be my limit right now the system temps are reading as follows. chip set 29 .. on an average Florida day runs around 33-36c .. so its not that bad i could always pull the heat sink and apply some as5 i also have some more pics to update as far as the CPU lapping and the mini wire sorting Ive done.. I'm also considering adding a 160g sata drive today ..and using that as my main drive sine right now I'm on a 40 gig ide.. I'm sure id see some sort of improvement system wide with that.. well ill update more later..

i know its not long enough for the official oc thread but to me its long enough for now I'm pretty confident with the results.. here is a cpuz of orthos speed fan and cpu-z .. for some reason cpu-z wasn't picking up the voltage correctly not sure if thats because i had speed fan open or not.. but the real voltage was 1.52 as seen in the speed fan app.. ram was 1:1 5-5-5-18 .. super pi was mid 17seconds (not shown but will rebench later and post up later)

pretty good man, thats still a good oc with the 4300 for everyday use, im leveling off on mine at 3.555 (395x9) with 1.58vcore, for some reason my board is giving me alot of greif lately and i think this is gonna be it as far as stable goes, i can still do the crazy boot into windows much higher but none of its stable
i would really consider removving the NB heat sinc, lapping it, and putting some as5 on there, yes even if its jsut a stock aluminum heat sinc i would still lap it and im not to sure on the S3 but i would get one of those little NB fans, they are like $5 at compusa and screw that bad boy on there

at that time i will apply as5 for now the system temps arnt that bad considering my ambient temps as for now i just installed a sata drive and kicked vista to the curb and reinstalled linux its running so smooth oh my god.. 64bit version to so i can smp fold i think im gonna sit tight at 3.420 for now till i get my waterblock and active cooling for my mem and then maybe pump 1.6 into the cpu and try for 3.6 stable

Just get the HD555's.

1.5V for 3.4ghz? Ouchies, that's a lot.
Mine uses 1.35V at that speed. It doesn't really matter for you though because you have phase to compensate for the voltage hungry chip.
