Hey Guys, ive been pricing myself out a new system..
Ive read reviews and reviews and reviews for the past couple months and checked forum after forum and newegg every day and read their user reviews to get an idea of what I want to do. Ive come to some conclusions and think this is the system I want to build. Evga 680I Motherboard Evga 8800GTS video card Crucial Ballistix DDR2 - 1000 Memory, 2x1gb, 2x512 - 3gb Intel Core two Duo e6600 Processor HIPER HPU-4B580-MS 580W Power Supply ZALMAN CNPS 9700 NT 110mm 2 Ball Ultra Quiet CPU Cooler Antec Nine Hundred Case Have the hard-drives, and monitor. I want to overclock the hell outa this system, ive heard of 3.8ghz stable e6600/ddr2-1000 ballistix rigs, so that is by all means my goal What do yall think? G00dWulf |

have you researched that motherboard? Have you seen similar OC's with that mobo and RAM combo?

The Asus or Abit flavours of the 680i board are probably better. The reference design 680i boards like the Evga, BFG, ECS etc. seem to have a lot of bugs/problems they are still trying to work out.

Yes, ive researched it quite a bit, read their forums and seen overclocks, none quite as high as 3.8 but ive researched extensivley and read a ton of reviews.. so far the Raid functionality has been the only problems ive been seeing with that board.. which I have no intention of running anyway.

Well i dont know what anyine else thinks, but please change that psu
It may have good ratings but non the less its modular. Your better off going with an OCZ or FSP 600W rather than that if you wana OC, thye have awesome psu's and awesome waurentees and theyd otn break the bank.

Well 3.8 on an E6600 would require you to have about 423 FSB. Pretty much any value ram can achieve that, so thats a bit overkill. Still it's very good ram.
The 680i's have a few bugs that need to be worked out in them, I still prefer the P5B Deluxe over them and they are still a good bit cheaper. The 680i may be overkill as well but still it is an excellent board that can reach very high FSB so no problem there. The only thing that could possibly stop your overclock is your chip. Not all C2D chips can reach blazing speeds in overclock. 3.8 seems plausible on an E6600 but I have seen them cap out before that. I'd say you should be able to hit 3.8 though. EDIT: his PSU in terms of watts is perfectly fine. If I had his system I would run a 500w FPS and thats it. You dont need any more than that to run a normal system these days.

As far as the Asus 680i Mobo's, they do not support the ddr2-1000 memory and if im not mistaken the better the memory the better the overall overclock im going to get..
As far as that power-supply.. it looks pretty damn cool and has damn good ratings.. i dont really plan to run SLI so I can use the extra power to overclock and do whatever else I choose. G00dwulf |

No board officially supports ddr2 1000 memory I think, but it should still work on the Asus board since it runs the exact same MCP chip that the evga board does. Also I've read a lot of people are having memory issues with the reference design boards and high speed memory on the evga boards.

An overclock only is effected by in terms of how high of speeds your ram can reach.
To reach 3.8ghz your FSB would need to be around 423. On a 1 : 1 ratio that means your ram would have to be able to reach 423mhz, while is DDR2-846. Most value ram can easily reach those speeds, so that RAM is quite overkill as I'm willing to bet it will reach speeds of DDR2-1110 easily. Which is not needed. So the better the ram only applies to a certain extent.
