Default My first Conroe build

After years of AMD builds, I wanted to see what all the fuss about Conroe was.

Here I go!

Used my old gaming case, great for air cooling

Bought some good stuff

I read this chip has good OC stepping

Ready for testing

Started up nicely, installed XP and started OC'ing. Temps hit 55c running 30 min orthos @ 2.8GHz.

That just won't do.

Bought a Big Typhoon, seemed perfect for my case.

Geezzz, what a crappy surface!

Flat and smooth a
fter a few hours of lapping.

Installed with AS5 and ready to go

Had to take the side fan off and move spacer outside for clearance

Got her up to 3.3GHz rock stable folding on both cores 24/7 at 40c for 6 days straight. I should be able to get 3.4GHz pretty easy on air.

I'm very happy with my build.

What a great idea!

I think I will do just that and see how many people ask what it is. It would make a good conversation starter if nothing else, not to mention a nice looking paperweight.

If you can wait, the E6600's are going to drop to almost the same price as the E6300 around mid April. If you can't wait, the E6300 is the next best choice for the money. The MB is a great choice as many others have chosen it as well. The other bonus of waiting ~2 months is going to be a DX10 video card selling in the $200 range. Don't get me wrong, I love my 7950 GX2. I will use it for many years and yours is not a bad choice either IMO.

It may be worth waiting but if you are going to buy now, it's a very nice system. I don't think you will disappointed at all with it.
